Welcome! Can't wait to see pictures of your little girl, and hold onto your hat, you guys are in for a wild ride with a sib puppy Cool Have you guys done any reading up on the breed? It will help a lot, but as much as I read up my little maniac still found ways to surprise me.

Is that 6 week you're waiting on 6 weeks of age? If so, I'd strongly recommend seeing if the breeder will hold onto her an extra 2-3 weeks. I know you're anxious to get your pup, I was too, but puppies learn most of their socialization skills and bite inhibition between 6 and 8 weeks of age. You'll have to work tons harder at socialization and bite inhibition with your girl if you bring her home at 6 weeks.

Best of luck, and we're all here to help!

Welcome! I greatly agree with Meredith. Keeping pups till at least 8 weeks of age is a huge factor. They learn so much from siblings and mom at those important stages that if they were pulled at 6 weeks it can lead to several issues.

Look forward to seeing some pictures!

puppy was born mid-june and breeder says we can take her 2nd week of august, so i'm guessing thats around week 7 actually.

I would wait as close to 8 weeks as you can. Most reputable breeders will wait that long to release puppies because there are critical socialization skills they learn from their littermates between 5-8 weeks of age. Discuss it with your breeder and see if they can't hold onto him until 8 weeks. You won't regret it. Bite inhibition is an awful thing to have to try and teach if your puppy doesn't learn it from his littermates.

Welcome to the forum Smile

Kale and I welcome you form California Cool

I also encourage getting them at 8-12 weeks. I got Kale at 5 weeks and I was in for quite a ride with bite inhibition and the proper way to socialize with other dogs. And I didn't have the amazing people here for support, I was on my own. Most breeders will hold a pup for a family if they request. Very Happy

Glad you are picking up so much info! Sounds like it's going to be closer to 7-8 weeks then when you get her, which is so much better than 6 weeks.

As far as the crate training, we originally had Ghost in a size large crate, but she's a little on the big side for a female so we recently upgraded to an XL. She was ok in the large, but since we both started working full time again and she was spending more time in the crate we decided she might be a little more comfortable with a little extra room. If you do get a larger crate, a divider is an absolute must and will help immensely with potty training.

I've been a firm believer in the minimum 8 weeks with momma and had mentioned that 12 would be better if possible. Was VERY happy to see this blog post yesterday posted in this site by hollywoodhuskies.

http://taysiablue.blogspot.com/2012/07/not-many-thingsshock-and-upset-me.html

Sure the majority of our pups come out great in the long run but have we ever stopped to consider all those sleepless night that possibly could have been avoided? Pay a few $'s more, have the pups stay a few weeks longer.

Welcome! I too would encourage the 8-week mark. We got our puppies a few days before they turned 8-weeks and even then I really wish we would have waited longer. Those few extra days/weeks really do make a huge difference in the development of a puppy. It's so worth having them stay so you're not putting in extra unnecessary work that they could just learn themselves with their siblings. Smile

Welcome by the way! wave This is a great place and tons of friendly folks with lots of Husky experience and useful information. I've learned a great deal from this place and wouldn't know half of what I know now if it hadn't been for this forum. Do as much reading as possible and ask lot's of questions.

Welcome John! Oklahoma gains another member, yay! Good job researching the breed first.

I too agree with what has been said about waiting and I hope you found a reputable breeder as there are tons of puppy mills in this state. I do rescue and have seen first hand dogs from "breeders" end up in the shelter for behavior or health issues.

There's a gal in Harrah that claims to be a good breeder but doesn't check her dogs eyes. She doesn't take back her dogs eventhough her website says she does. She also ships her dogs anywhere in the country. All huge red flags.
