Mieka is 13 weeks old and when we got her Saturday we were told she gets 1/2 cup of food twice a day. I've actually bumped it up a little and she's now getting approx 2/3 cup twice a day but she scarfs it down so fast like she's starving.
Is this normal?

Also, she has had pretty loose stools most of the time. Not always, but probably 3 out of 4 are pretty loose, not formed at all. What can I do for this?
I read something about sweet potato treats?

I live in Brighton, MI. It's in Livingston County (Southeast, MI.) Where do you live?

I'm not sure of the brand, I can't remember. They gave me some in a bag and then are supposed to be mailing me a big bag. It's dry kibble though.

My grandpa was the sheriff of Livingston County (Don Homan)

I am in Livonia, about 20 minutes from you. Smile

Go check your bag, that will help us decide how much you should be feeding. In the event that you don't know, we can help you find an affordable one that is high quality.

But, It looks to me like you are feeding less that I would recommend. At that age, Cato was eating 3 Cups/Day in 3 feedings of a high quality kibble.

He is growing perfectly.

I would hand feed her, it helps her know you control the food and helps a bond. I did this with my Mika when I got her because she scarfed down food the same way. It has helped out big time. She now eats slowly. If you don't want to do that, they have bowls to aid in slowing dogs eating down. Or try a big rock or something.

This breed tends to have an issue with mid grade food and most do higher quality to get the results they want. Do though what your budget will support. She looks great though.

I'm going to agree with Megan on this one, it sounds like you probably aren't feeding her enough. We were giving Ghost about 3 cups of high quality kibble spread over 4 feedings when she was that age. I would try bumping it up some and see how she does.

Also, a low quality kibble or sensitivity to an ingredient could be causing her runny poo. Seriously consider switching to a grain free kibble, or at least a higher quality one without fillers. There are tons of threads about nutrition on here, and www.dogfoodadvisor.com is a great resource for researching kibble. The big ingredients you really want to watch out for are corn, wheat and any meat byproduct, but there are many Huskies out there who are totally grain intolerant.

Thanks everyone. I will add in another feeding at noon tomorrow and that extra feeding will bump up her intake. Hopefully she won't feel like she's starving anymore.

I do feed her out of my hand and so does my husband. But, she gets a little crazy because she's like frantic for her food. Hopefully an extra feeding will help that, too.

Oh, cool! We actually just moved to Brighton a little less than a year ago. We moved from Kalamazoo. I love Brighton. It has such a small town feel. Smile
