PostSubject: Kirkland Nature's Domain   Mon Jul 16, 2012 3:33 pm

Just wondering if anyone's switched their dogs over to the Kirkland Nature's Domain at Costco. We previously were feeding our 2 huskies Natural Balance and then moved them over to Blue Buffalo/Wilderness. We were considering Taste of the Wild but as you all know, they're a bit pricy at about $2/lb

With our latest addition Lucky at 5 months old, we wanted an all stages kibble that we can feed all 3 of them. It's been getting so costly lately, we thought we'd make our first try at the Salmon/Sweet Potato.

I couldn't find any comments on the Kirkland Nature's Domain line so I thought I'd ask. Thanks everyone!
Ben

I'm pretty sure that's what Jenn feeds and someone else too I think...

I have been feeding the salmon one since our costco started caring it over a yr ago. S&J love it. i would mix the ND with the TOTW for jack but i ran out of TOTW and have been feeding just the ND with no complainants from him. sierra gets the ND mixed with her "light" food its a good mix for her as well. i might pick up the turkey one since im not sure TOTW is worth the price since they like the ND. unless i want to switch the flavors up. i would say give it a go. and hell costco takes anything back in case they hate it.

Awesome, thanks Kristina and Jennifer. both Kayla and Chance's coats weren't in the best condition when we first got them. We've noticed a drastic improvement using a higher quality kibble. It's just been getting so costly now that Lucky is eating just as much if not more than mom and dad. Surprisingly, they will eat ND by itself no problems with no wet food. (They both can be picky.) I'll be trying the turkey next time to see how they like it. I'm just happy to be saving some money and still get a quality food for them.
Jennifer, what's the "light" food you refer to if you don't mind me asking and do you mix with a wet food on occasion? Thanks for the feedback!

Ben & Vannessa,
i have never used a wet food, from what i was always told its not good for the teeth as it will stay clumped on there unlike kibble. i feed sierra wellness core grain free reduced cal kibble. when we got her she was 60lbs affraid we switched to TOTW and was feeding 2 cups a day but she was not losing weight, i found this food and put her on just that till she was down to 46lbs, then i started to add in the ND because the wellness is so $$$ and so far she has been able to stick to her new weight.

Thanks Jennifer! I've heard the same. We primarily feed the dry, but on occassion we do offer a little wet mixed in with the dry to offer a little 'treat' to them. And when we do, it's usually 75% dry / 25% wet. I've seen wellness core around. I'm thinking of a lower calorie kibble for Kayla because we noticed she's gained a bit weight. But 5 mos removed from having her litter we thought her weight would drop down, but she's at 47lbs and Chance is at a lean 45lbs.

It's been 2 weeks today since we got them fixed, so I think we can start taking them out for walks/runs to get them going again, so hopefully that'll trim Kayla down. Thanks for the suggestions and ideas. I think I can consider a lower calorie kibble for Kayla at least.

how much did Kayla weigh before the litter? Sierra at 46lbs and at AKC standard for height and length i don't think i could see her any skinner! and she is a fluff ball.
see what the walking does for her first

I actually didn't get a chance to weigh her before she became pregnant. but at her leanest, she was closer to 40lbs. she is a bit smaller in stature though. i guess more to come as we get more exercise in.
btw, awesome shot of Jack and Sierra in your sig. are they even on a leash there?

No not on a leash but were on the top of a 13,000+ ft mountain! take a look in the great outdoors section to see all our adventures Smile they stay leashed at the start of the hike and in any woody area, but once were above treeline they have been good.

Since my Costco membership has expired, I was wondering if it was worth it to renew Smile I am thinking of switching my older two dogs to Kirkland. What is the approximate price that you pay for it. If it is agreeable to my older two, I'll switch the pup to it later on.

Thanks!

The ND turkey formula is $28.99 for a 35 lb bag at my Costco. The Salmon formula is a few dollars more.

I'll have to go check out our Costco. I think that is about $10 cheaper than the cheapest price that I found on TOTW

I think I pay around $33 for the salmon. We have not tried the turkey yet, might give it a go next pay to mix it up for jack. Let us know how it goes for you.

My dogs did great on ND Salmon, but we stopped it when the recall happened.

We're being extra cautious (perhaps too cautious, but better safe than sorry) and are even stopping the Nature's Variety Prairie since it has ingredients imported from China (many companies use synthetic vitamins and other chinese ingredients even when the food is made in the USA). We're moving to Acana since they don't use chinese ingredients, it's also a great five star food. We researched at dogfoodadvisor.com. It's more expensive, though - about $51.99 at a local shop. ND is definitely a great price.
