Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

She was happily gnawing on her raw marrow bone, I happened to glance over at her and she had managed to bite off a rather large, thin piece of bone, she saw me coming, ran away and swallowed it...
Probably a good 1.5" by the looks of the rest of the bone. I'm a little worried now: can dogs digest these? I'm concerned she'll perf her bowel or get an obstruction.

Freya ate one a couple of weeks ago. I was worried as well. I gave her a few hours of just observation. But then next day her morning BM was full of little bone bits. I was really impressed.

Just watch her for a while and see if there is anything indicating she's in pain or having trouble pooping.

Cato swallowed an entire Duck neck whole two weeks ago- the entire think is 6 inches longer and has a bone all the way down the middle.

you would think it never happened, I never even saw fragments.

Don't worry too much. Just watch and if you see anything questionable go to your vet. Smile

When Freya was 8 weeks old she swallowed a whole Chicken neck. It scared the bajezus out of me, but she was fine. Would never have known it happened.

She should be alright, they're surprisingly good at breaking them down! I find the best thing to do when you spot something like that is just to observe, because if you go over, thats exactly what they do, run away and swallow the damn thing! Luka has swallowed all sorts of things whole before just because he thought I was going to take it off him lol!

Thanks, I feel alot better now after those stories. Smile She had a normal poop today and seems fine. Of course, today I had my back turned for a few seconds and she got her paws on a bowl with an apple core (bad, I know, I hope the seeds will pass through undigested), which she swallowed whole, and some cherry pits. Sigh, she'll eat anything and everything . Once she pooped out a Taco Bell fire sauce packet. I could go on and on...
