1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

I always make my husky sit and look at me+wait for further directions at home and before getting off the car. At the dog park, she CANNOT get her eyes off the other dogs. She will sit on command but will not look at me. Maybe a quick glimpse. Is that enough? This is what I have been doing with my dog but am definitely open to suggestions on how "politeness" works with huskies. What do you do at the park? Let the dog go as soon as you get in the fence or wait will the dog calms down? What about excited pulling on the way to the park? lol

This is my first husky!

It's kind of up to you. You will train the animal you want.

I honestly don't mind that Appa loses his mind at the dog park when we first get there. I won't, however, let him pull hard on the leash to get to the gate, but once inside he is a wild animal free to go.

My dogs have to mind their manners until they are off leash in the park. Walk to the gate, keep their composition at the gate while I open it, and then sit and wait for me to get their leash off and open the door. It's all personal preference.

Our dog park here is off leash and Cally gets excited when we first get there. I make her walk all the way down the trail on her leash and then there is a bridge/creek in the forest (off leash) area and I make her sit and then let her off when she's sitting calmly. After that, it's free rein for her until we're back at the on-leash area. All depends on your preferences to how you want your dog trained.

Mine are soo interested in the smells getting to the gate, I have to be ahead of them and wait to get them in. They are in a hurry to get in until the sign just outside the park where the dogs all park. Then I just get the door open and let them go, they behave pretty well over all while I get the leashes off. Then its all fair game in the dog park.
