Help the Dog smell! Empty
PostSubject: Help the Dog smell!   Help the Dog smell! EmptyFri Aug 31, 2012 6:21 pm

I really need some ideas on how to cover up the smell of dogs. My dogs spend a lot of time in my room and it stinks so bad. I just had my carpets done last month, its back to smelling like dirty dogs. I burn scentsys 24/7 but I burn through those, fabreeze and I tried this lemon deoterizer thing that was supose to last 90 days, well it didn't... I am trying to find something a little more cost effective, I can only bathe them so much.

So what have you guys found that works the best at covering up the smell of dog?

I would like some advice on this too! Phantom isn't stinky, and people with actually stinky dogs always say I'm insane when I call Phantom smelly, but still... there is always that dog smell. And my dog LIVES on our couch and bed. I mean, we spoon when we nap. lol. So if there is stinkiness, I'm going to smell it.

Two products that KIND of help for us are:
http://www.amazon.com/Arm-Hammer-Strength-Carpet-Eliminator-30/dp/B0014B36HS/ref=sr_1_4?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1346450133&sr=1-4&keywords=carpet+deodorizer
http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Miracle-Laundry-Boost-Additive/dp/B001TA5O9C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346450091&sr=8-1&keywords=laundry+boost

I'm not saying they are amazing. But it does help. Honestly, I think it does work well but in 48 hours Phantom has shed and stunk all over the place... And I'm a clean freak...Rolling Eyes

HAHA this is kinda funny, well ok not really. My husband says our family room smells like a kennel lol. Well I do have two crates in there, and it is where we all hang out. Even my couch is beginning to smell like a dog, and our "nap blankets" do too lol. I am going to rent a carpet cleaner this weekend and will also lightly do the couch.

My husky doesn't really smell, but the lab OMG take her out in the sun and it brings up those lab oils and god she stinks!! lol

Okay, well now I'm glad I'm not insane when I claim that Phantom smells worse when she comes in from out of the sun. I definitely thought I was making that up!

All animals have a smell. Some people claim their huskies don't have a doggy smell. I call bull. I've never met a husky that didn't have a dog odor. Mind you, they are about a thousand times milder than other dogs, but there is still the "i'm not a human - I'm a dog" smell.

My family (as in, not my wife and I, but my parents and siblings) are 100% anti dog. I've asked them to let me know if my house ever has a "dog smell." Luckily it's only happened a few times. We clean our carpet with hot water in a bissel at-home carpet cleaner, and have a scentsy running frequently. We also give Appa a bath once a month, or more if he's gotten himself extra dirty / covered in other dog spit. I've found the more he plays with other dogs the more he stinks, their smell rubs off on him.

I really dislike the smell of dog, but it's like the hair - it comes with the package. You can continue to go nuts over trying to cover it up, get rid of it, or give it to the inevitable. You've invited a non-human into your home. It's smell is now part of your smell. Our living space we keep aired out and clean and free of dog smell as much as possible, our bedroom has a doggy smell. It's where he sleeps.

I am hoping it will get better, I am moving out soon and I have a side business I'll be operating out of my home so I need to try to keep it smelling nice. It's worse at my parents house they have a ton of plants kiara pounces around in and she smells so bad when coming in from the back.

When I did all the research before getting Freya I read that Huskies didnt have the glands that regular dogs have that make them have that iconic dog smell. Freya still gets a bit wiffy from time to time. I bathe her every 2 weeks in antished shampoo that smells like blueberries.
I wash her bedding every week and I burn incents.
I dont know if you get it over there, but I spray all my carpets with Glan20 once a week. It's an antibacterial spray that smells really wonderful.

Working in a kennel, my apartment smells like flowers compared to that.

I actually get this walmart stuff. To me it works the best. I also bought a crap load of bath and body works plug ins!

Does it smell like fish from the back? Anal glands to me! Yes huskies and mals can get it . I know a quite a few owners have to express them.

No not that smell, I know that small my min pin needs it done every month, it's a terrible smell. It just stinks like dirty dogs. My min pin also needs a bath though. I guess I am looking for some kind of deoterizer that actually works and its just popery.

Ours doesn't usually "smell" per se. But I do agree that every living creature emits a scent. Jeter gets the doggy smell when he gets wet. Otherwise he's pretty much smell free and it's not noticeable and I have a very sensitive sense of smell.

This product works really well(Smells like head and shoulders) and it also helps neutralize the dander making allergy/asthma sufferers more comfortable around dogs. You use it once a month. I suffer allergies and my neice is asthmatic, this product has really worked for us, and as long as Thunder does not roll in the undesirable, he smells good.
