So, the other day I was at the pet store getting some pet food, a bag of TOTW for Konrad and a few cans of EVO for my cats. When I went to check out, the lady advised me to switch my cats to a different food, when I asked why I was told that Natura Pets (Innova/EVO/California Natural) had been bought by Proctor & Gamble, some 7-8 months ago in fact. Proctor & Gamble is the same company that bought Iams and Eukanuba. The lady at the pet store felt confident that history would repeat itself and the formula's for the Natura Pets pet foods would inevitably get changed.

I'm hunting around for a new cat food now. I am kind of curious though, am I the only person who was completely unaware of this? I'm interested to hear your opinions, and if any of you know where I can find more info on the buyout I'd appreciate it.

I didn't know about this either. But then again, I feed Ginger Orijen, the owner of the pet store where I get her food from probably wouldn't have said anything unless I wanted to try Evo for Ginger.

I don't have a cat, but I believe THK has cat food - just not sure if they have the 1oz or 4oz sample packets you could order to try them out. Otherwise, check with your pet store because mine always has free samples of different brands of what they carry.

I feed my cats Acana and Blue Wilderness. People have been concerned that the ingredients after the buyout are going to be lesser quality. Some people have noticed a difference with their EVO dog food after the change.

First off, Natura only made their own dry food before the P&G buyout, the canned Natura foods were already made by what I call "less than reliable" manufacturers. So I don't think the canned foods are going to suffer from the buyout. Now with that said, I personally would not buy Natura's dry food products since the buyout. Does canned food make up the majority of your cat's diet? If not, I wouldn't hesitate to use a product like Evo canned food to be honest.

The problem with shopping for cat food is that cats are obligate carnivores and it's terribly hard to find a good food for them that isn't full of completely unnecessary junk. I would highly recommend looking into Ziwipeak if you can afford it. It's a dehydrated raw diet that is heavy in meat and organs and is the closest to a natural, raw carnivorous diet you can find short of feeding raw itself.

Good to know, yes my cats are primarily fed canned food. They get wet food twice a day and I leave dry food (TOTW) down for free feeding. Icharus is an extremely picky eater, right now the only wet food he'll eat is the EVO 95% beef and 95% duck formulas. I went ahead and got a couple small cans of Weruva, Wellness Core and Solid Gold to see how he'd like them, I'll definitely check into the Ziwipeak though.

I actually wrote a paper about obligate carnivores vs. facultative carnivores, including all the hypo- meso- hyper- carnivores, for my high school biology class about 8 years ago Wink

I was aware from the forums I'm on. Evo was a big feeder for some people and there was quite the upset about it. It's unfortunate, but then again, I feed TOTW which is made by Diamond, whose reputation isn't much better if at all. That being said, I also monitor my dogs very closely because of the food I feed to make sure there are no changes.
