Long story short. Today my sister had to walk saya since I was unable to. Well my sister allows saya to pull like there is no tomorrow and guess what. Saya pulled so much that her martingale actually slipped out. Saya mad a run for it. Luckily she is a lazy one and just loves being home sshe knew the way home and ran straight for it. On the way she almost got hit by a car. Luckily the car stopped in time. My sister came home and woke me up.(getting ready for my night shift) blaming the martingale telling me she would not walk saya unless I got her another collar. Well better safe than sorry I need an alternative for a martingale I dont want a harness because saya pulls like there is no tomorrow with one.Any suggestions?

I have a back up system going..lol. It works for us because we use the prong collars though. You would need two collars in order to do this. I use a small dog coupler and attach one part to the leash and the other to their regular collar. We had Mya snap her prongs at last years camping trip! I'm totally paranoid now!

Like this, but smaller.

I had to use martingales on my greyhounds because their heads are so narrow they could back out of everything else. BUT the key to correctly using a martingale is to be sure it is fit properly. I am thinking that maybe the collar was too big. She really should not be able to back out of it if adjusted properly. Neither of my greyhounds ever backed out of their martingales. Maybe a trainer can show you how to fit one properly.

I use the EZ walk harness. My dogs really do not pull with it.. They can not back out of it.

I agree with Melissa maybe a backup system of some sort will help keeping her from getting loose.
