Hi everybody. I have been looking around the forum a lot lately and figured Id join and introduce myself. My name is Nick, and a week ago got my first Husky. She is a beautiful 2 year old named Kya. I got her from a breeder a few hours away from my home. She was returned to the breeder because the family that had her previously had a fourth baby and it seemed as though Kya was a little jealous of it. Nothing ever happened, but the family felt as though they should resolve the problem before it became an issue. It seems as though she is making the transition well, but there is a bit of separation anxiety. When she is left alone, she is a little destructive and barks/ cries for some time after I leave. Looking for any suggestions people can give me for possible solutions.

Welcome! Kya is beautiful! Do you crate her while you're gone?

Thanks! I have tried, and found that when she is confined, that is when she is destructive. I left her loose in the house on Friday when I was at work, and she was fine, minus barking when I left, and pooping once while I was gone all day. I would really like her to be comfortable with the crate so that I could leave her in it when I'm gone.

Thanks. Yep, there have definitely been a few times in the past week that I have gotten frustrated, but I do understand that her adjusting will take time. More than willing to take the time and help her. She is doing a lot better than this time last week. Really appreciate the help that I have already received.

Awesome, I was wondering if there was anybody in the Milwaukee area on this site. I know exactly where Slinger is. Happy to find out that there is. Will definitely have to get the dogs together sometime.

| Hi Nick. Thanks for adopting. Kya is a beautiful girl.
My boy is a rehome from similar circumstances as yours. It does get better. Bodhi had separation issues when I got him. Luckily, he was already crate trained. I took him to work with me, and left him in his crate in my car. (It was winter.) I'd come out and walk him around, give him water and treats every hour or so. Then I worked up to two hours, three and all day.
Now he sleeps in his crate at night with the door open. And I can leave him for six- eight hours in his outside dog run.
