Concern with Ruby's experience with Taste of the Wild Empty
PostSubject: Concern with Ruby's experience with Taste of the Wild   Concern with Ruby's experience with Taste of the Wild EmptyTue Sep 25, 2012 12:30 pm

So, I've had Ruby on TOTW : High Prairie Puppy Formula (which has Roasted Venison & Bison) for about a full month now, and at first... she LOVED it. She would devour it the second I'd put it out.. but then I took notice that during the evacuation due to Hurricane Issac, she wasn't eating as much. She hardly had a appetite, and almost the only time she would eat the least bit, was when I would trick her and sprinkle crumbs from her treats on top of the food. I figured it was because of displacement, and stress... and perhaps she was homesick that she didn't want to eat. Well, it's been about 3 weeks since we got back from the evacuation, and she doesn't have the same appetite. So I took it in consideration that maybe the High Prairie Formula was a little too meaty for her. This Sunday, I went out to buy TOTW: Wetlands Canine Formula which has(Roasted Quail, Roasted Duck and Smoked Turkey) hoping she'd eat it. (I hear this one and the High Prairie Formula was the two most popular) Well, Ruby didn't exactly care for it either... It's starting to worry me that she's not eating as much. & I called the feed supply store I get the TOTW from and asked them if this is normal or what the issue could possibly be, and the gentlemen I spoke with stated that TOTW is high in protein and it would take time for the pup to get use to... but I'm still new to this.. so if there something you guys could suggest or insight me on? Thank you!

Wetlands Canine was Jack's least favorite in the TOTW flavors. try the salmon one. 3 weeks is still a short time to get back to normal after being displaced. she might just need more time.

Time is all I think is needed. Each dog is different on food choice. Cali went a few months eating Pacific Stream (salmon) very well to not really wanting it and skipping meals, even day worth of meals at a time. I got Wetlands and now she is back to eating like she did. I think I am going to rotate the totw choice every other bag or so to give them a spice. I bought a new back of the Wild Boar version yesterday at the dog bakery, but we are a few days from needing to start the transistion.

Good luck with Ruby and her eating. IMO, i feel she just needs time to regain herself and get back to a normality for her.

Thanks for your replies @jbealer & @kevo! :-)

I'll have to try the Pacific Stream after I'm done with this bag because I actually brought a bag of treats for Ruby which consists of salmon and potatoes, and she is in loooove with it! Haha. I forgot the brand name though.

Also, another thing I wanted to ask was... last time I went into the vet to weigh Ruby, around the time of her spay, she weighed about 30-35 pounds and that was perhaps late July- early August? I'm gonna assume she is 40 or so pounds now. She's 6 months, is that about right? I'm taking her to the vet for a checkup Saturday, so we'll know for sure her weight then! :-)

Balon weighs about 45 lbs at 7 months, if that helps you.

Thanks you guys! I was asking because I noticed she was a bit bigger then some huskies I heard about. Like a 7 year old that's 58 pounds? I'm like... Ruby is 6 months, and she's probably 40-45 pounds now! She seems like a big girl, but I think it's muscle also. :-) She's also bigger than my neighbor's 11 months old, and he's a male! But if you guys think she's finei believe it!

Here's some recent pictures:

Nikko was 47lbs at 6 months so that seems normal to me. I know breed standard for females is 35-50lbs and 45-60 lbs for males, but Nikko is going to be bigger than that since he is almost 60lbs already at 10 mos.
