| Does anyone know of a good dog treat review site similar to http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/? Also, what do you all prefer to use for treats? Certain brands? High reward recommendations? Home made? Types to avoid? |

| Mine is still pretty young, so I don't consider this experienced advice. But, Kodi was VERY picky when I brought him home regarding treats. I tried several of the PetSmart treats that the trainers recommended (Nature's Recipe Training Treats and Wet Noses Little Start Cheddar) -- he turned his nose up at all of them. One evening, I came across the http://www.petfooddirect.com/ site and searched through reviews. I found a couple of options that are working well for me:
- Cloud Star Tricky Trainers (Chewy): Natural Cheddar & Liver Flavors
- Little Jacs Small Dog Training Treats: Fresh Chicken Liver
- Cloud Star Buddy Biscuits (Soft & Chewy): Grilled Beef Flavor
I use the Cloud Star and Little Jacs for high-value potty treats. When I walk outside and open the back, he immediately stops and looks up for direction. He LOVES those! I leave the Buddy Biscuits in the crate throughout the day to give him something to wander in and find for positive association. And I also use the Milkbone Marrow treats and Greenies when he has to be crated for anything longer than 30 mins or so. [I work from home, so that doesn't happen often] I'm planning to boil some chicken to test out for training treats this week. We've gotten a few commands down with the Stewart Freeze Dried Liver treats, but I am going to start using the Cloud Stars instead. They are a lot cheaper, but even more importantly he absolutely loves them. Good luck!!! |

| I have made several. The last one I made was chicken jerky slice the chicken in thin strips and put in the dehydrator for several hours until they are dried. I also made some very easy ones using the following.
Ingredients: • 1 cup ground flax (see note) • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, grated • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional) • 1/2 cup water Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 400° F 2. Whisk the flax, cheese, and garlic together in a medium bowl. 3. Stir the water into the flax mixture. 4. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly spray the parchment paper with non-stick cooking spray. 5. Pile the mixture into the middle of the prepared baking sheet. 6. Cover with another piece of parchment paper and roll out (see note below). It should be no more than 1/2" thick, 1/4" is best. 7. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the center is no longer soft or spongy. Storing - This heart healthy, like other recipes for dog treats will stay fresh in your refrigerator for about 2 weeks. Keep them in the freezer for 6 months. Yield - Using a pizza cutter, you will get about 24 2 inch squares with a few irregular squares of various sizes to nibble.
