Let me start off with I know nothing about getting papers for my dog lol I was just wondering if I did a DNA test for her if I could get her papers with that? I got her from a BYB and I've tried and tried to get in contact with them to get any kind of papers and no Luck as soon as I gave them the money they never returned a text or call but said both parents have papers? But you can never be to sure... All input would be appreciated :-) thanks

If you can't get the papers/information from the "breeder," you're pretty much SOL. There's really no need for papers though unless you will be breeding or showing, which I'm guessing is a big no since you got her from a BYB.

I was suppose to contact Ro's family a few weeks after getting her to give them my address for her papers, but I never did since they are of no significance.

If the parents were papered, the breeder would've had to register the litter and there's certain numbers they were supposed to give you. Without those numbers, I don't think you can register her.

I definitely don't plan on breeding her, no way. I just wanted to know if there was anyway I could get papers.

And thank you for explaining now I understand.

Yuki's breeder gave me the papers when I picked her up. I registered her with the AKC a day later. I am planning on showing in puppy shows (until she's fixed) just for fun and then doing agility and other fun things with the AKC Smile Cloud was supposed to do AKC agility with me, he's really good at it, but as it turns out he came with APR papers and not AKC as I was promised. Granted, it doesn't matter to me if they're registered or not because they're my companions and not trophies, but it would've been nice if I hadn't been lied to about Cloud's registration XD Anyway someone suggested a program called Purebred Alternative Listing to me for Cloud, you could probably do it for Sappphira. I mailed you with more info ^-^

Hey we all make mistakes, I thought my breeder was top notch and found out once I joined the forum that they would still be considered a backyard breeder. My breeder didn't do hip/eye testing on the parents, released the pups too young at 6 weeks old (stating the vet said that was the best time to do it -eyeroll-), and offered full registration (not for a higher fee but I think limited is more responsible as I know one of Yuki's brother's owners is planning to breed him to a female they already have..) Granted though, my breeders are super nice! They don't do 'christmas puppy specials' nor do they charge more for 'rare colors' or full registration. They keep in contact with everyone, we all share photos of the pups on the breeders facebook page, we all cried when we found out one of their rescues died, we all aww'd at the newest puppies, and some of us schedule husky meet-ups (my first one might be this thursday with Yuki's brother). They hold a husky reunion every year that we'll hopefully be attending next year, and they make you feel really at home. They have some pros and cons and although I don't plan on buying another puppy from them, I do plan on staying in contact Smile

I don't think we are going to send in Anna's papers. She has limited registration so even if I wanted to show her I can't. I kind of see sending the papers in as a waste of money since we aren't showing or breeding her. I mean if I was going to do agility I'd might send them in but that would be about it.

I went ahead and sent Yuki's in because I know there's a certain time limit for AKC papers? or so I heard. I wanted to go ahead and do it incase I wanted to do something with her in the future Very Happy

You can apply to the AKC for an PAL/ILP number if you want to participate in AKC events - not confirmation of course, but obedience, agility, etc. http://www.akc.org/reg/ilpex.cfm

I wish I had registration on my rescue, Delilah - at the very least I would have the ability to trace her parents.

Cato was sold me on limited AKC papers from Karnovanda. I show him in altered UKC shows and he does very well, but I would never breed him (his gait is a little off) and I do it for fun. He is papered and I do see them as more than just a trophy as with Siberians there are a lot of really fantastic AKC groups and clubs you can be a part of it. In a few months, we will be working on our WPD titles. Papering isn't required and if you don't want to do any AKC dog sports or activities, don't worry about it. However, if you ever decide you want to do agility or rally, you will want to be registered. You only have to do it once Smile

Plus, they have a recovery system now too...just one more way to find your dog! Wink

I registered Cloud with the AKC recovery system as he came with a micro chip, really eases my mind just a little bit knowing they'll be there to help. Yuki has yet to be micro chipped I really need to do that soon before I forget -faceplant-
