I am curious on what arrangements you guys make for Christmas? My dilemma is that I have family out of town and I don’t think I could bring them with me. My parents live about an hour and a half away and have cats so I don’t think they would allow me to bring my dogs, plus we also go to my aunt’s house for a bit as well. I can’t leave them home alone for almost 12 hours, so my only option seems to board them, but then I will be without them Xmas eve until the 26th, and I don’t want to do that either Sad

Why not look for someone who can come to your home once or twice and feed/walk them? If you have Camp Bow Wows there, they have a franchise called Home Buddies that is insured and bonded. Or ask a friend if they can do it? I'm thankful my parents love my pups and have no conflicting animals, or I'd never visit home.. haha.

I am going to check with my mom, she might be OK with letting me bring Nikko over and just have him in the crate or outside while I am there. For Yukon, he will have to go to my roommate’s parents house and stay outside, because he gets carsick Sad I could not imagine Yukon making it an hour and a half without puking up half his body weight!

We bring our dogs with us everywhere we go or we don't go. We boarded Dakota once and while he was a good boy he refused to eat the entire time and had really bad stress diarrhea from the experience. After that experience I decided never to board him again unless absolutely necessary and so far I haven't needed to again. If I really can't take my dogs somewhere I drive them down to my mom's house 4 hrs away and she'll watch them for me.

Yeah, I really hope my mom lets me bring him over. It's not like they are not pet friendly, they have 2 cats. It's not like I would let Nikko just roam the house, he would be either in his crate or I would be outside with him.

My roommate might have to take him to his parent's house. They don't allow pets inside though, so they would have to be outside, although we have a doghouse with straw inside for them and they are plenty of people there to keep them occupied. I really don't think I am going to board them.

If I have to board her I do so at my vet's office. That way if something does go wrong, they know her health history and can help.

Usually though I try and bring her. My brother and I left for Thanksgiving early so I could take her because there isn't room for her in the car with all four of us.

If i'm going somewhere for an extended period of time, I have my neighbor come in and check on the dog's every few hours and let them out. If that isn't an option, then unfortunately I will not go.

Does you're mom have a fenced in yard? If so, could you keep them outside during you're visit?

Actually I just heard back from her and she doesn’t see a problem with bringing him along! So YAY Nikko will get to go with me!

She does have a fenced in yard, but it is chain link and only looks to be about 4 foot tall. I could let him off leash to go potty but I would not leave him unattended back there since he could jump the fence if he wanted to. I will just bring his crate so he can stay inside and just make trips outside.

Yukon gets carsick on just the shortest rides, so I am going to have to have my roommate take him to his parent’s house. He will have to stay outside in the doghouse I have out there.

We are making a 20hr trip to Cali for Christmas this yr (a friend is getting married and I'm a bridesmaid) and are taking Karli with us. She's good in the car, so that's not an issue at all. My mom-in-law already has a dog and she said Karli would be fine at her place, so we're bringing her kennel along for nights and when we aren't there. There are gonna be four other boys there so I'm sure Karli will be highly entertained lol.

I wish my parent's had dogs, just 2 cats, and I don't think the cats would take too kindly to Nikko LOL. When I went home for thanksgiving the cats would run from me. Her other cat was really cool and would lay on my lap, but he passed away a couple of months ago.

Well its only my mom-in-law's place that she can stay. My hubby's dad would say no. Although, he's also under the impression that huskies can't survive in hot weather either. He keeps telling us she's gonna die (he thinks we're coming back to Cali to live at some point Rolling Eyes ) in the hot weather but seeing as how there were so many husky breeders in Cali when we were looking I very highly doubt that. Plus he has birds and she wouldn't do so well in his small apartment.

We are staying home this year or my husband will go visit his family solo. We didn't make kennel reservations. We have an awesome kennel. The owner owns huskies and used to run a sibe rescue. Lots of outdoor time. Great rates. Just super popular and you have to plan ahead, especially Christmas and summer vacations.
