After missing our chance at a gorgeous red and white female from a local no kill shelter, my boyfriend andi have applied to three rescue agencies for a new husky. The agency we got Kane from last year said we're already approved since we got him from them in January, but 2 of the 3 we were interested in have been adopted at events and the third has someone waiting on a home inspection in front of us. One of the other groups has done a home check and we are approved, but there are several others interested in our #1 pick and one family gets to meet him tomorrow, since they're ahead of us in the process and live much closer than we do (we'll have to drive about 4 hours to go to this group, which was about the same we did to get Kane.) We won't get to meet the doggie until next Sunday at an adoption event up there. The final group has called our references but no home check yet.

I understand these sweet babies have already lost at least one home and a process is necessary to ensure they don't lose another, and that this will be their forever home. But waiting sucks. The questionnaires and the references and the hoping no one else gets the dog you have your heart set on....*sigh*

I just needed to vent to some people who know what we're going through. I can't imagine what it's like to go through this process for a child, it's so nerve wracking and heartbreaking for a dog (my dogs are my kids, though) I'm very greatful for Kane and the time we have with him, but when there are so many of there needing homes and we have a great home and family and it takes so long, it's very disheartening.

Thanks for listening, or reading as it may be.

I know where you are coming from. Our sibe is from a rescue and the whole process was kind of nerve wracking. I was terrified that I was driving four hours and what if the dog didn't like us or vice verse! It worked out and we love our little girl. You picked a good place to vent. It will happen and it will be great. Hang in there.

I was thinking about it!

Which dog are you looking at?

I love McPadden & Halligan. My boyfriend and I actually tried adopting Halligan through a animal shelter in Alexandria before he was sent to the Husky rescue, but they said he was "too aggressive" for them to adopt out, so we would have to go through the Husky rescue in order to adopt him.

Halligan is our number one pick! Lol. He's so handsome and from the videos and description, he would be a perfect addition to our clan. There are a few others that we are interested on also, but we'd like to have Halligan very much. It sounds like they have a LOT of people interested in him, and I know what's important is that he gets a forever home, but I wish it could be with us.

Human adoption is much worse...kinda sad. So many families are waiting and willing, but the process is so time consuming, it's really disheartening. My manager heard rumors of my girlfriend being pregnant and he jokingly, sort of, said that if I didn't want it, to give it to him due to him waiting years for adoption. =(

Anyways, good luck. I'm sure a lot more will come up

Thanks Kick. I didn't mean to downplay how hard human adoption must be on parents, I honestly just can't imagine. It's so sad that there are so many kids out there in foster care or orphanages that deserve a family, but the process is so expensive, invasive, and drawn out that many families just can't do it. I hope your manager is able to push through the process and adopt a child.

And Bellecma, I totally agree about driving 4 hours and being terrified that the dog wouldn't like you. That's how we felt when we went to get Kane from his foster, but we were pleasantly surprised. Kane loves everybody, and took to us immediately. Thanks for the encouragement.

Halligan is a doll! I actually made a thread on him before he was sent to the Husky Rescue.

He was in Alexandria Animal Shelter and his name was Achilles. We went to go adopt him and the shelter wouldn't let us look at him. Right before we showed up he kept trying to bite the staff and they said he was too aggressive for them to adopt out. It wasn't that he was too aggressive, the environment was just too stressful for him.

He said if we wanted to adopt him, we would have to go through the Husky Rescue, which we wouldn't get approved for, because my bf lives in MD near Ocean City.
