Well today we took a 4 hour round trip to pick up koda. When we got there the breeder was already waiting for us. We had called ahead. She was the fifth of seven to go home.

We had gone to see here when she was 4 weeks old and she was cute and small than got a Christmas photos at 6 weeks (profile pic). Now she is 8 weeks old and weighs in at a whopping 11.2 pounds. Any body think that she may be over weight?

Sounds about the right weight. Nikko was 9lbs at 7 weeks when I got him

i dont exactly know what you mean by free fed. but i was told that she fed them 3 times a day though i do not know exactly how much she fed them.at the beginning they all at from a giant pan and after they were weened each puppy was given its own bowl.

she is a porker, she likes to eat a lot and just wants to continue eating, i dont know if its cause she is used to eating alot and likes to pig out or if she is really hungry, how can i tell, i dont want to starve her if she really is hungry.

Free fed meant that the food was out all the time.

i dont exactly know how much we fed her today, she just kept eating i wanna think maybe 3 or more cups of kibble.

she didnt like our 10 week old beagle trying to eat her food with her at first but had no problems with our hands in her food, but by the nights end they could share a water bowl.

Cato was eating 3 cups a day when we first got him too.

That puts me at ease, i was really worried she was a porker, our beagle eats half that so i was not sure, i do know that they are different breeds and differents sizes so i guess it all makes since, thanks for the help

She has a round bellie, she probably just needs to be dewormed. When is your first vet appointment? They would know more.

she is 8 weeks old and i have her on beneful puppy chow, they had her on purina puppy chow i believe. The breeder starts her puppies on real food around 4 weeks, But all of her dogs are of breeder standards and good size and health

Well, it is your decision but you may want to choose a different food for your pup. But that is up to you.

I would cut her down to 2.75 cups and see if that helps. But, you need to measure it out.

i will start doing measuring it in morning, i plan to change both pups to better foods, i bought this big bag for them and then i saw the ratings it got on a link from the food section of the forum. i will probably start changing kibbles here in the next few weeks. thanks for all the help

That seems like a lot of food. Lucian is 5 months old, and gets fed 1 cup of food 3 times a day. That can vary on activity level, but check the back of the bag for the feeding amounts. It will give you a good idea of how much to feed her.

Well that's still 3 cups for the day. But yes I do believe that she should be eating less than she is. But her paws are huge so I believe she will just thin out as she grows into her adult body. Will update on changes in the weeks to come
