Grain free at Costco! Empty
PostSubject: Grain free at Costco!   Grain free at Costco! EmptyMon Apr 26, 2010 1:01 pm

so I was going to order new food today but I was at Costco yesterday and went down the dog food isle and there it was! I had heard rumors it was coming but was not sure when!
here is the grain free food they have now for $28 for 35lbs.
http://www.naturesdomainpetfood.com/about-natures-domain

we are feeding TOTW pacific stream $48 for 30lbs
http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/products/dogs/pacific_stream_canine_formula/
I bought the bag and started mixing it last night and of course Sierra chewed it down and Jack is still being picky so not sure about him. the only thing I noticed is the ingredients in TOTW seem better in the first 3-4 listed but if you look at the Analysis on both they are all most the same, can any one shed light on if one is better or not?
thanks

They look pretty much the same to me. They're both made by Diamond Pet Foods. It looks like Nature's Domain is actually based off of TOTW and sold only in Costco stores. Sort of like Equate stuff is the same as the brand names but sold only in Walmart.

I wouldn't be concerned with the nutrition levels too much. All the percentages are the same. However, keep in mind that it looks like TOTW is higher in concentration. So you're going to be feeding more of Natures Domain to equal the same value as TOTW. In the end, it may not be saving you any money because you're going to go through Nature's Domain quicker (check the serving sizes and compare them).

Just something to keep in mind Smile

the serving is not that much more just a cup. and with Jack I will add that in but for sierra and her weight I will keep it at 2 cups. the savings is $20 for us from the TOTW so even if we do feed more I think it will still be cheaper, the only issue right now is Jack not wanting to eat and maybe he just does not like fish based foods in which case I will buy the Natures Domain for sierra and have to go back to the TOTW high prairie for jack at a higher cal count as well since he can handle it. ugg so much work and money! no dog is the same!

I have no idea if the conversion will be the same (in terms of portion size over cost).... I just wanted to note that it's something to keep in mind when you feed, that's all Smile It might very well be cheaper, I'm just skeptical since the ingredients are fewer and the calories are lower, I'm guessing that it's a "watered down" version of TOTW considering it's from the same company and being sold only by a discount store. But skepticism does not imply that I think that it will definitely go the other way, just that it's something to keep in mind and I wouldn't take either as a guarantee Smile

Well I just ordered another bag of TOTW for Jack, going back to the high prairie flavor, can't stand him not eating, so if he will not eat this food either I'm not sure where to turn next, maybe he is just in his terrible 2's stage? so that is $76 in food the last week, now i just hope it last longer cause each dog is now eating their own 30-35lb bag of food so should last 6 weeks instead of the 3 weeks for 1 bag.
