| Ok so i think it's time to send blu under the knife... he's starting to get a little "too" friendly with my leg. I had a date over on sunday night and he was well... yeah she didn't appriciate it to say the least (doubt i'll be hearing back from that one xD).
So i talked to my vet to look at scheduling his neutering appointment for the middle of march, however he said something that made raise an eyebrow or two. he said that it is perfectly fine to get him neutured at 5 months of age... he has done it to his pets at 16 weeks of age. Now my medical understanding isn't exactly vast when it comes to animals in general but i thought you always wanted to wait until atleast 6 months of age before having the surgery done. Correct me if im wrong.
Part of me wants to agree with the vet because my thought process is "he's a vet for pete sakes... he must know what hes doing" but the other side of me knows that i should look into it a bit more before jumping into anything. I was talking with my buddy about it and he said he wasn't getting his dog neutured because he had heard that it can cause cancer in some cases (im guessing this is only possible is they dont heal properly, or the vet screws up, or it is done too young?).
Either way my vets comment has me questioning weather or not i should be looking for a new vet for blu tbph... that just sounds fishy to me. |

| It's normal to neuter around 5-6 months. All puppies grow at different rates, so it just depends on how developed your dog is at that time. The same way that not everyone hits puberty at the same time. I wouldn't be too concerned. Just ask how long he's been doing the surgery and if he's worked with a lot of huskies before. |

| I got Kale neutered right at 5 months. Do what feels comfortable to you; everyone has differing opinions on this topic. What it comes down to is what you believe is right for your circumstances and your dog. Males don't tend to have as many issues with waiting to alter as with females (pyrometra, mammary cancer, etc.). Males can get testicular cancer and prostate cancer (and mammary cancer), but that usually isn't associated with neutering at 6 months instead of 5 lol Like I said, Do what feels comfortable to you. |

| Since Nunya was planned to be a pet, we had him neutered at about four months I think. We weren't planning on doing any sports with him, so we weren't concerned about neutering messing with his growth. |

I didn't notice any change in Kale's personality after his neuter. Bad about what exactly? |

| I think it's important to add that humping isn't always neutering problem. While it can lessen after neutering, it isn't guaranteed to stop, or even be effected at all. |

| He's humping my leg ALL THE TIME now! It's really annoying.... I know that probably sounds selfish but if I walk past him or something it's constant when he's wound up. We have a lot of dogs on my street so I want to make sure he is fixed. |

| Humping can be a dominance thing. Bella used to do it to me when she was going through her "teens". You just have to keep up on pushing him off and hopefully he will subside. |

| Not all mounting is dominance. Kale mounts to initiate play. He has never been corrected by another dog because he isn't doing it to dominate. He mounts for 2 seconds, jumps off and starts running, while the other dog starts chasing, and usually the whole dog park starts playing an epic game of chase Kale lol. |

| I wasn't saying it was, just making him aware of the possibility that nuetering might not change the situation. |

| I was just speaking in generalities, with some lightheartedness mixed in... everyone is so uptight these days. I guess to get back on topic... Neutering may or may not stop mounting. Depends on the individual dog. |
