2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.

Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Husky likes to nibble on our other dog Empty
PostSubject: Husky likes to nibble on our other dog   Husky likes to nibble on our other dog EmptyWed Mar 13, 2013 11:33 pm

Hello, I just recently adopted a 3 year old female Husky named Mazie. We already had a 3 year old German Shepherd mix named Max. We have been having issues with Mazie trying to dominate Max, even though they are the same size. When she gets rough and playful with him, she also will nibble on him. Mostly on his face or behind his ears. He can't stand it, and it always starts a dog fight. I am new to this breed and don't know what to do. When I was a kid my parents had a beagle, springer spaniel, coon hound mix, and she would do this same behavior, but otherwise I have never seen it before. Any suggestions or reasons why you think she might do this?

Huskies are notoriously rough and mouthy. If it's starting fights, maybe you could try one of those soft muzzles? Especially if you don't have full attention on them. Maybe work on her "leave it" too, and teach her when she's being too much, if she's not taking the cue from your boy. Reward good playing and stop/pause play if she's ignoring his cues. I don't have a lot of experience with this, I know others do, I'm sure they'll chime in soon Smile

When Kodiak and Chinook, our shepard/lab mix, get into it alittle to rough, I tell my wife to clap her hands real loud and say stop. That gets there attention and they both stop. The loud noise gets their attention and saying stop makes them know that when that word is said, they do it. This has worked great so far.

My Husky and Lab do this too, they will start chewing on each other and I hate it! So I usually do the same thing clap my hands, or bang the table to startle them, then I say NO!! It usually redirects it. It's both of them starting it, I know their playing and believe my when it comes to play my lab plays like a husky lol, but I don't want it escalating or someone getting hurt!
