Hey all, my husky, Xavi has suddenly taken an interest in catching birds. At first he would just stalk them and then pounce at one and scare em away. Until 2 weeks ago he caught a a bird and killed, after that he tried eating it and vomited it all out. I thought that he just got lucky n caught one but since then he has caught three others, killed them and put them in his food bowl. Any ideas on how to prevent this behavior.

No ideas on how to prevent this - do know that the husky girl I had 40 years ago was a pro at catching birds right out of the sky! Nothing I could do about it - she was a marvelous hunter of mice and birds, also a predilection for porcupines but they have built in protection . My current boy can catch voles under the snow while on leash right before my eyes - hunting is in their DNA!

If you really don't want him doing it, don't let him outside unsupervised. Take him out to do his business and then bring him back in. If you're out there with him and he starts stalking, try redirecting his attention with something else like a higher value treat.

Some plants really attract birds as well. May want to consider removing those types of plants if that is the case. I know I have a cup plant that attracts tons of finches and other small birds that I would remove if Loki got bad with birds. When he had his baby oppossum phase I was saw they have hawk decoys so birds avoid your yard.
