2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

separation anxiety - Seperation Anxiety 8 mo. HELP! Empty
PostSubject: Seperation Anxiety 8 mo. HELP!   separation anxiety - Seperation Anxiety 8 mo. HELP! EmptyTue Mar 19, 2013 9:16 pm

Hello everyone! I am so glad I joined this forum! Anyways.. I have been having troubles with my 8 month old puppy, Harley. He has terrible anxiety when I leave. He has now destroyed 2 cages completely. He is so strong that he is able to move any barrier or such that I use to try to contain him. Being so young, I do not feel comfortable leaving him out. He never went through any chewing or destructive phase... At least not yet. He is only destructive when trying to get out of his cage. Any suggestions on cages? Ive been looking and it looks like I am going to have to spend a lot on an "indestructible" cage. I have tried to make his cage a place he feels comfortable and safe, but still no use.. He destroys plastic pans in a matter of days, which leads to ruined flooring. So the cheaper wire ones are no use due to the plastic plans and wires he can bend.

I work during the week days but am about to come home for lunch everyday for an hour. I also send him to doggie day care once a week or so, to help with his energy. (Even though he doesn't exert much energy around the house.) We go on walks and runs during my time off. I am going to purchase a bike so that I am able to help more on the energy side of things.. Hoping it helps calm him when I leave.

I have also tried the training classes.. Which didn't teach him much more than I had. Overall, it seemed more like socialization time. Which I know is good for him too since I have no other pets. He already knows all the basic commands and is VERY well behaved. Only issue is when nobody is around.

Any suggestions and helpful comments would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance!!

Welcome!

There are many threads already started with TONS of great advise of what to do in this type of situation. If you search "anxiety" than you will get a bunch of different topics. There is advise on different crates to use, how we as owners deal with the anxiety, alternative suggestions, etc. Also, if you browse through the "training" section, I'm sure you will find a lot of information on there to help you out as well.

Here are a few to help you get started :
