Ryka is not even 6 months old. His shoulder to paw length is around 38 inches, his weight is right under 40lbs. His paws are huge, and he has the personality of a large dog. Any way I can guess how big he just might get? What's the average adult size of a male husky? I've read females tend to run smaller. I would love to have a large, fluffy, snow dog! Just prodding around for some clues. Smile

Easiest way would be to look at how big his parents are. Aside from that I believe males on average run 45-60 lbs I think. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any real way of knowing how big your pup'll be aside from using the parents as a guideline. Is Ryka a purebred husky or do you think he might have a mix of something (like a Mal)? That'll change things a bit. Personally I don't put any credit into paw size and adult size... I just don't believe it, but that's my opinion.

Look back through the lineage see what size mom/dad were and if possible the grandparents, however either the measurement you took is wrong or your dog is not a purebred Siberian as the top of the standard for a male adult is 23.5" at the withers- Your dog at 6 months is already far over that if the measurement was taken correctly. Males are typically 45-60lbs. Siberians are not considered a large breed.

Have you posted a picture of your pup anywhere?? If so could you post one here??

If that measurement is in fact correct...your dog is way out of standard. Like stated, huskies are NOT large breed dogs. They are medium sized. They are not meant to big big fluffy oafs. They were meant to be a fast and agile sporting dog. Maybe remeasure and see what you get. That is just huge.

I don't remember where you said you got your pup, but I'd check out the parents it possible.

I will attempt to upload a picture of him.

After looking back at what I said his height was, I must have been on crack when I typed that. 3 feet tall? Not yet!

He is a strapping 21-22 inches. So I would assume normal? His paperwork says full husky. As does his registration with AKC. :/

Taken from the AKC Website:

Size, Proportion, Substance
Height--Dogs, 21 to 23½ inches at the withers. Bitches, 20 to 22 inches at the withers. Weight--Dogs, 45 to 60 pounds. Bitches, 35 to 50 pounds. Weight is in proportion to height. The measurements mentioned above represent the extreme height and weight limits with no preference given to either extreme. Any appearance of excessive bone or weight should be penalized. In profile, the length of the body from the point of the shoulder to the rear point of the croup is slightly longer than the height of the body from the ground to the top of the withers,

That being said some dogs will be smaller and some larger than breed standard. They can still be purebred husky, and AKC registered. It just means they can't be shown. I know my Balon is probably 65 pounds, won't know until May when he goes to the vet. So that makes him bigger than the standard. His parents are both well within standard, so you really just don't know for sure.
