I found out Mya has a sensitive stomach, she get sick with anything that has animal by products or grains (soy, corn or wheat) in her food. Anyone else have this issue with their husky? If so, what food do you recommend?

Lots of people on this site feed grain free food. Look into some of those maybe

I tried grain free and she got so sick by it that she wouldn't even eat it when I tried to feed it to her again. And she eats everything lol. I've heard of the raw diet but I was wanting to do some more research about it before deciding to change her to it.

Nutro naturals but my vet said to go ahead and switch to adult sensitive stomach foods, that's why I was wondering.

It could be the nutro - I know many dogs who just don't agree with it. Is there a rpice range you are hoping to stay in?

Yeah, I agree it could be the Nutro. They aren't a very good brand; have had a lot of recalls and don't have good enough standards IMO.

I would try switching to a higher quality food (brands that come to mind are Fromm, Merrick, Instinct Raw Boost, TOTW, brands like those), or going to either full raw or dehydrated raw (Primal, The Honest Kitchen).

The first kibble I put Kale on way back when was Nutro. It didn't agree with him at all. It was a gassy, poopy mess lol I put Kale on Taste of the Wild All Life Stages after that, and he did fantastic.

The Nutro was actually the only thing I found that didn't make her sick but it was expensive for my college budget. Now she's eating Whole earth farms and she's doing fine on that but has occasional problems which may be from the daycare she goes to, they might give her treats so I'll need to let them know. I just bought some Purina One Sensitive Systems which seemed like it got good ratings online and is in my price range.

You don't need a special food marketed for sensitive stomachs. You just have to keep trying out different foods until you find one that works for your dog. It's trial and error for every dog and there is no one best food because dogs are individuals and have different needs. What works wonders for one may disagree with another and vice versa. There was a time when I had 3 different foods for each of my dogs because for whatever reason they didn't do well on the same foods. And it's been trial and error trying to figure out what works and what doesn't for each one of them.

Two of mine have very sensitive stomachs, no special food required, just need to find the one that works.

BTW, just because one grain free food upset your dogs stomach doesn't mean you should rule out all grain free foods.

I think most people here use these two dog food rating sites, http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/dry/ and http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

And Purina One Sensitive Systems gets a 2 out of 5 star on Dog Food Advisor http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/purina-one-smartblend/ and I couldnt find it on Analysis. Some of the reviews on Analysis seem way out of date. I prefer Advisor. But most Purina stuff is listed as 1-2 stars on Analysis.

The vet just put her on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal dry food. I took her to get her meds for her UTI and she ended up having diarrhea in the office so he took a stool sample of it and found nothing but he's hoping this food will help her get on track.

I have never used Analysis. I use www.dogfoodscoops.com much more frequently then I do Advisor. A lot of the reviews on advisor I just don't agree with and I think Scoops does a much better review of foods.

I didn't know about that one, ill have to check it out. Thanks. It's scoop and not scoops, had to google it link takes you to an empty domain

Edit: just checked it out. There are only reviews for maybe 25% I them. And the top 10 hasn't been updated in 3 years. I know the other two sites don't update all the time either but from first glance advisor is way superior. At least in terms of info. The actual ratings from 0-5 is nice but that is about all it's gives.

To me it just sounds like you dont need that special food. I wont just try a different brand.. It took me 4 different foods for koda before i found the right one for him. I wasnt to smart about it ether and bought the biggest bag each time. I still have a full bag almost of earthborn primitive that he doesnt use lol..

I had the same problem. Went through a few different brands until I found one that works for both pups. I ended up sticking with Blue Basics, which is a "limited ingredient" food that is made "for dogs with food sensitivities".

I've gone through six or seven brands/styles and this is the only one that allows both dogs to have normal bowel movements.

It could be that you are switching too often. I would reset the pups stomach. Either feed a few meals of scrambled eggs and Carrots/Green Beans or Boiled Chicken and rice. A bland diet would help.

Some GI upset like that can be caused by food allergies. If you can't find a food that works for her, try one that has no grains and a novel protein source (one the dog has not had before- fish, duck, rabbit, etc). There is a brand I have just found- that Murphy loves- called Zignature. They have a fish and green pea formula. Natural Balance is affordable and has lots of limited ingredient diets (I have heard some negative feedback about quality, but its worked well for us...).

If you do decide to try raw, just make sure her nutrition is fully balanced! Otherwise I've heard great things about it.

I'm going to try this food my vet had me purchase and see if that helps. I know switching her so much isn't good for her but I didn't know what else to do at the time, I just wanted her to stop feeling sick. After I level her out and feel her stomach is okay to switch to something else, I will probably try the foods recommended here. Thank you all so much for all the info!
