Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

PostSubject: ideas for slippery floor...   ideas for slippery floor... EmptyThu Aug 15, 2013 4:00 am

Hey all, couldn't find this discussed:

We have the fake hardwood floors in a large part of the home, including the area where 10 week old Chuck is currently penned into during the day when he can't be surprised. He slips and slides quite a bit, I worry a bit about his development & comfort.

I thought I'd cover a part of the area with a large floor mat potentially but wow, this is turning into another $50-100+ expense.

Looking for a little crowd sourcing on potential ways I can cover part of his area to make it less slippery without spending a lot. If I have to I have to but hoping to avoid it!

Cheers

I wonder if the beeswax component of Mushers Secret would add a bit of grip?

Have you tried second hand stores like ReStore? You may be able to find a rug or something there that is cheaper, plus you wouldn't need to worry about if he ruins it or not.

Why don't you just use a crate?

We had the same problem with Bob after his fho operation.  We bought Church aisle rugs - they are thin and easy to cut placed in stragetic areas and added two area rugs.  So far so goo.

I will probably look around in 2nd hand stores if I don't get any more specific ideas.

There is a crate in his area but if I don't have to I don't want to confine him to a crate most of the day.

I would suggest rugs, but then I consider that a cheap solution. Neutral

I got a gym mat for Dizzy from amazon, but I think its was about $80. I wanted thick rubber incase he had an accident. Turns out, it's really fun to chew, so I had to watch him like a hawk when he was really little. He's grown out of rug chewing a bit now though. Maybe try some kind of grip strips from home depot, but its hard to imagine any that wouldn't mess up the floor...
