I am finally getting the opportunity to get my first siberian husky, He's white with gorgeous blue eyes. The only problem is i'm just not sure what to name him. He looks like Jake but I also like Diesel. Denali I like too but I'm getting the feeling it's only for girls. I'm really torn because I'm picking him up next wednesday and I really wanted to order a dog tag with his name and credentials on it!   Thanks!

If you don't know wait until after you have had him a few days and a name will fit his personality.

Yuki's dad's name is Denali, so it can definitely be a male's name. I like Jake too, but I'm partial to it! I'd say wait and let it come to you, I was texting my friend Abby a lot when waiting for my Yuki to come home and I'd go Yuki/Hime/Ally and I finally said this is annoying so I just started calling her Yuki and Abby goes 'so is Yuki going to be her name?' and it stuck.

How old is he? Very cute! I only ask cause it looks like he could end up bi-eyed from that pic? Or it could be the lighting lol. I like Denali for boys. Mine got her name exactly the same way Yuki did lol. Congratulations on the puppy!

Denali is a great name, always sounds very regal to me.  Of the forum's more expert member's male show dog is named Denali.  I for one think of it as a more masculine name, for whatever gender is worth for a dog

In general I love character names from games, books, mythology, etc.  Your pup looks like an elf, just sayin'.

I might end up having to wait until I actually get him, but I hope he turns out to be the biggest husky ever.

He's actually 7 weeks old. Akc registered and he will be ready next wednesday. I'm going to try to crate train him when I am away but as for sleeping I hope he learns to sleep with me.

Denali is awesome because it's a cool name but it also means "the Great one", but everyone loves a good ole house name like Jake. I'm not sure...

His ears do look like an elf! lol The breeder also told me he was the bigger size in his litter. I got the pick of the litter with him, my next one will probably be a more black masked husky but time will tell.

Oh my, he is so cute and fluffy.  Do not worry if it is a boys name, everyone seems to think all white dogs are girls anyways.  Happened with my friends samoyed and now loki is always a she.  I like Denali, but jake is great too!

I hope mine is not biggest husky ever. My vet said my pup will not get as big as my lab. Maybe 80-90, which is huge for husky. I hope he tops out around 60-70.

We put loki in crate at night just as potty training is much easier. He is sleeping with us in bed during naps though.

Make sure to read up on here before he comes home. You will find so much information on everything, crates, food, potty training, toys, chews...etc. There really is a whole lot of info and there's been a substantial influx of new members with recent experience....a lot of 6-12 month old Huskies whose humans are very active on here.

I've been reading forever and it still seems surreal but I'm glad I'm getting him. I need to get supplies but I'm not really sure what I need for the first night. The breeder is giving me a blanket with his brothers and sisters and moms scent on them and puppy food for a month. Not really sure what else I need...

In the elf/LOTR theme, Haldir was the elf that came to the rescue in Two Towers. The name is a lot less used by the masses and only true LOTR fanatics would probably pick up on it when you told them his name.

Do they really shed that bad because I have a dog now but he sheds when you just touch him. I am constantly vacuuming. He's an inside dog because when I let him out he cries to get back in. He's had free roam since he was around a year old, and has never had an accident. He always let's me know when he wants to go out and he can hold it and I guess he refuses to use it in the house. Is this anything like a husky will be like?

I would not count on it! My Rogue is a PAIN with potty training, although I admit I quit on crate training before we even started and he sleeps in bed with my husband and I. I am always quick to tell everyone that it was cute and adorable when he was a tiny puppy, but now at 55 pounds and a boy who flops everytime he moves - not always as cute!

We are lucky because someone is almost always home with him, however when it comes time to go outside he gets so excited playing and stalking anything that moves (he's into grasshoppers right now) he often will forget to go potty outside and then will come inside and do his business. I used to think he didn't want to get his "play" area outside messed up!

With Rogues now at over 7 months he has gotten much better at going to the door to go out, but if you are not right there with him he will still go inside. This usually happens when my 19 year old daughter is in charge of watching him and well, that is because she is just as distracted (or more so) as Rogue is.

As far as shedding - YES they shed like CRAZY! You don't even have to touch them! And again, I am lucky with Ro, he hasn't blown his first coat yet, but he STILL sheds pretty bad. When they blow their coats you can literally pull off clumps and clumps of fur - often enough that you could build another dog with just what you pull off!

He is a BEAUTIFUL boy - I can't wait to hear what you name him and see the pics as he grows! CONGRATULATIONS!!

That's how my dog now is. He NEVER quits shedding. The only good thing is they are fine little (white) hairs and aren't hard to get up. Yes he is white. The most noticeable color available when shedding, however, they are thin and not noticeable unless put up to something black. He's awesome though, he looks like Petie off of the Little Rascals so we named him petie. We rescued him, he just showed up one day in our garage and hasn't left since. He needs a friend though. I had an older dog that looked exactly like a Rottweiler but was a mix breed of some time and she passed, also being a rescue. Just looking for a new best friend, hopefully Denali or Jake or Whatever I'm gonna name him will be perfect.

Your pup is adorable!!! I side with those saying Haldir for his name as I'm currently watching LOTR reruns! As for your question about shedding, when he is a bit bigger possibly before he turns one he will blow his coat for the first time. At least that is what happened with our pup. After he blew his coat the first time though, he hasn't stopped.....For potty training, our boys were potty trained pretty quickly but we were always home to make sure we could let him out at least every few hours. The first few months were rough, but well worth it. Our pup was potty trained by the time he was 3 months old and would go to the door whenever he needed to be let out.
