Harnesses for Luna Empty
PostSubject: Harnesses for Luna    Harnesses for Luna EmptySat Jan 18, 2014 2:23 pm

This has probably already been brought up numerous times, but I am on my cell phone and navigating around a forum on a phone is not the easiest thing in the world!

Anyway! We want to start having Luna pull a wagon around so she can get that "working dog" feel that she is bred for. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on pulling harnesses that are made especially for this purpose. We don't know a whole lot about harnesses and would love any suggestions or advice. Thanks!

The forum has been a little slow (not a whole lot of posting) which is probably the reason for lack of suggestions.

But there are a lot of great harnesses out there. I know a really popular one used by a lot of members is the x-back harness from alpine outfitters.

Here is the site: http://www.alpineoutfitters.net/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=16

Also, if you use the search bar at the top, you can find lots of threads about different types of harnesses. Hope this helps!

Yep.  I'll admit, I haven't been poking around much lately since Christmas.  Started school last week too so I haven't had much time.

First things first - it is advised to not bike your dog until he/she is at least 1 year of age.  Biking earlier than that can lead to damaged joints/plates and growing pains.

I would find a big tablet, laptop, or a computer to sit at and read the forum.  I've tried using my phone on here and there is just too much information on the screen to really get a feel for this forum on a phone.

Like Rocio said, there are several threads about harnesses and pulling exercises.  I'll give you one example because I've had to read several threads to really get a feel for what exercise works best for my lifestyle.

Many people, like myself, use an x-back harness for bikejoring and urban mushing (carting).  I got my x-back at alpineoutfitters.  Nordkyn also sells x-backs for a reasonable price.  For my bike, I bought a Walky Dog.  You can also buy a Springer attachment, but it is nearly 4x's as much as the Walky Dog.  It is different than the Walky Dog though, so it depends which one you like better.

Some people also like the urban trail harness from alpine outfitters.  It has hooks on each side of the harness and you can bike from the left or right side of the dog, whereas the x-back is just along the back to the base of the tail.  It is a little bit more pricier than the x-back.

There's also rollerblading as well if you like to rollerblade.  Some people also buy special scooters to have their dog pull them.  I already had a bike though, so I felt like it would be a waste of money to buy a scooter.
