Mya attacked another dog today. I take her to daycamp M-F and I was talking to another owner who was waiting for his dog and Mya came out and attacked his boxer. I asked the staff if they didn't get along or something and she said that they play together everyday in daycamp. I'm not sure if she was trying to protect me or what but now I'm worried that anytime she sees another dog when she's with me, she will attack them. I've taken her to a no leash park before and she's been fine so I'm not sure what's going on with her...

It could have just been a one off. Maybe they were in too close of quarters and she didn't like that. Maybe she got jealous if you were giving attention to the boxer. Maybe she didn't see him approaching and he surprised and scared her. Keep an eye on her, but try not to be too nervous. If you get nervous, she will pick up on that and it might make the problem worse.

I agree. Pack dynamics are always changing. It's probably just a one-off. Something in the environment could have made her nervous and she reacted. Dogs live so in the moment that one minute they can be fighting and the next everything's fine and they're acting like the best of friends. This incident doesn't mean Mya's inherently aggressive or will always react that way. Like Jen said, keep an eye on her but don't let it get to you, as Mya can take her cues from your attitude about a situation, whether you show it outwardly or not.

I work in a daycare and we have a rule- 1 dog in the lobby with an owner at a time. Maybe it wasn't Mya at all- Maybe the boxer was giving cues protecting his owner, or was excited about getting picked up. When they're energies change and they get SUPER excited because they're going home- anythings possible Like they said- Don't worry too much, I'm sure she's fine!

Are you sure it was an attack and not her trying to start play? Even on a leash when we meet dogs and jack gets excited and wants to play he mKes a loud noise and ljnges for the nexk, the same behavior he has with sierra and friends pups and dogs at the park, it looks scary but its just his style. Or it could have just been a one time thing, dont freak out and just keep an eye on her and her behavior at parks vs on leash _________________

| On the leashes in the lobby area is a huge "hot spot" for issues between dogs. If that's the only time you've seen that behavior- I wouldn't read too much into it. Maybe some work on greeting dogs or even being around dogs on leash but I don't think she is "aggressive." Dogs are coming out with very high and usually quite unstable energy. It isn't unusual for these things to happen. I always encourage our customers to please give space- because you really never know. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?!
