Peeing on Laundry Basket? Empty
PostSubject: Peeing on Laundry Basket?   Peeing on Laundry Basket? EmptyThu Feb 12, 2015 11:58 pm

Hi there everyone!

I have a question for you; One of our Huskies- Loki, who is a not altered 1 year old male has been peeing/marking on our Laundry Basket. He is completely house trained, and it's a newer behaviour.. he makes his way to doing it right after he eats food I find. I'm not sure why he is doing this, Is he marking his territory because he isn't fixed? I've had several different male dog breeds that haven't been fixed at this age and I've never had this issue before. When he goes to do this, generally we manage to catch him and put him outside to goto the bathroom right away.. otherwise I'm not sure what to do other than fixing him (which we intend to do anyways, but we are in the midst of finding a new house and moving by March 1st so not something we can do until we are comfortably settled in our new house.)

What I would like to know is, why is he marking? we have no female dogs, our other male is altered, and has never pee'd there before.. so any opinions, experiences?

Just an off the wall question for you - What are the chances that you've wiped up a liquid accident and put the towel in the laundry basket (( if not exactly that, then something similar )) ????

The majority of the time, but I generally do wash it (the bag that is)- I'll have to do that again. You see our basket is wicker... would that have something do with it?

If you put a "wet" towel (or whatever) in a wicker basket, the wicker would have absorbed the odor - that might be prompting him to continue marking / urinating on it.

A quick Google search (which you might want to follow up) suggests that cleaning it with bleach or ammonia (( you do know *NOT* to mix those, right? )) might remove any trace odors.

Have you tried spraying the basket with an enzymatic cleaner, such as Nature's Miracle? Since it's wicker, it might be difficult to get the smell out without it. Or, if it's a basket you're willing to part with, buy a new one and see if the behavior continues.
