PostSubject: Game: Guess this dog   Game: Guess this dog EmptyFri May 25, 2018 11:11 am

So we get several people who come on asking if their dog is a mix or not and what we think that dog is mixed with. I did a DNA test on my super mutt, Keno, here a while back and thought it might be a fun change of pace for those that want to to take a stab at guessing what he is when we actually do have results to tell you how you did.

I will have had him 4 years the first part of June. He is around 7 years old and was a rescue from a Humane Society down south. He came to the society as an owner surrender. The owner claimed he was Lab/Malamute. He is around 56 pounds and 20 inches tall. Some of his personality traits are incessant spinning and wooing when he is excited. He is fearful of loud noises and things that seem to move on their own. Curious what you all think he's mixed with. I will post results after everyone has a chance to put their Game: Guess this dog 2144500265 in. I did the Wisdom Panel on him which is cheaper than the Embark that I had done on Kye. Biggest difference between the two is that Embark looks at a lot more medical markers and will give you an age estimate. Wisdom does MDR1 and an exercise collapse disorder is all and it won't give you age.

This is fun! I’m guessing Sheppard, lab, and jack Russell (because something smaller and spinny!)

He must have been a hard call since no one else even wanted to give it a stab. You were definitely on the right track @ZiMan

That's right. He actually has some husky in him. Genetics are an interesting thing when you start looking at actual percentages and how they show up considering how little GSD he has yet how much really shows up in him. Then how much Spaniel he has and how little of it really shows up physically. I will say though, his personality shows the Spaniel a little better.

I'm a definite chicken when it comes to breed id's ... and with this pup I wasn't even going to hazard a chicken guess!!  I looked at him and said to myself ... "Well, he's a dog!?! Naw, he's definitely a dog but ..."

Now, who did that and what was the cost?  Since Avalanche is an Alaskan Husky, I've been curious about what his makeup really is.

Well, ignore that question, I checked the url on the last message ... now is it worth it to know what he is or not ....???

Wisdom is a lot cheaper than Embark. I used a coupon code that knocked it down to $85. When I did Embark on Kye I paid real close to $200 for his.

As a kid, I had (my dads new wife's dog, so she was my weekend dog, haha) a Malamute female that was mixed with German Shephard who looked very much like Keno, only a little bit fluffier. I saw this post before the weekend and thought Malamute/GSD/Lab (only put the Lab in the mix though cuz you mentioned the owner said he was a Mal/Lab mix, otherwise I'd have probly left it out) I didn't/don't really see the small breeds in him so I'm surprised there. Malamutes spin up a storm when they're excited too, when us kids would show up at my dads house on weekends, she would spin like a tornado Smile

Very cool you had this done and shared it with us the way you did.

HAha the picture laying down with the dropped ears looks so like my friends malamute. I too saw before the wknd but had no time. I thought malamute for sure and was like maybe lab like she says maybe GSD, I wonder what it will be. Let me think what else should I throw in the mix. Then I never got back! LOL

The small dog was really the kicker of the whole thing. Considering his size we knew there was a little dog in there somewhere. Truthfully I was expecting it to be hound. He's got a good nose on him so was thinking Beagle.

I haven't had Mals but I've been around a couple but they weren't spinners. I am working on stopping his spin. It drives me insane because he often slams kenzi in the face with his butt when he's mindlessly whirling and she's getting too old and delicate in the mouth to take those hits.

Thanks for sharing. Fun, and I want to get done for my pup too at some point in the future. He looks like a sib, acts like a sib (from everything I’ve read about them), but, curious to know if it’s 💯, as that seems so rare. I had a border collie/jack Russell mix and she was hyper, so I think my mind always go there with spinning. But it’s good to know that spinning is a malamute trait too!
