Hello!
My name is Isak and I'm a new Husky owner. I'm 20 years of age. I'm a college student at Kent State University. Now, I know what you're thinking, a good at college owning a dog! Trust me, I'm not your average nimrod college kid. I also live off campus with my cousin, we rent a house with a big fenced in yard, so the conditions are great for the dog. This is my first husky, back home we have a golden retriever. I do have experience with dogs. Huskies are very intelligent dogs! I haven't had one accident with Tiko, he already knows not to go potty in the house and it's only been one week! My school is in Ohio which gets very cold during the winter. I really enjoy the winter though, I'm always outside walking with my cousin. So I decided that I wanted a husky which has always been my dream dog. Came across Tiko from a breeder in northeast Ohio. Welcome to you and Tiko! He's so cute!!! How old is he?? Being that this is your first husky you sure have come across the right forum for all of the advice that you might need. They are VERY INTELLIGENT, but stubborn so get ready for when that kicks in. They're worse than toddlers..lol!!!

I would love a video of him "talking" also! I can't over those eyes of his...very very cute.

You guys are all so nice! Oh the stubbornness has already kicked in. He knows what he's not supposed to chew on but does it anway, once he sees me coming he stops chewing then gives me this innocent look! I can't even get mad at all. He's about 10 weeks old. Born March 30th.

Haha an Aries doggie. My Mya's bday is March 23rd and she's so much more stubborn than Kody. Arries...gotta love them. They have total personality..LOL!

Oh I know! I take him for a long jog/walk everyday! I also love walking during the winter so we're going to be enjoying that together. Thank you everyone : )

How old is Tiko? Young puppies should not be going for long walks and jogs, however unlimited backyard play is just fine. Older pups can handle longer walks and light jogging but certainly not as young as the puppy in the picture looks.

Yup. Tiko (according to the OP) is 10 weeks old. This is way too young to be taking him on a long walk or jog everyday. He needs lots of free play on a grassy area whether on leash or off-leash in a fenced in yard.

Running and long walks on pavement are too much of a strain to put on his young/growing bones and joints. He is also not mature enough to know when to stop, so it's entirely possible that without realizing it, you could be pushing him too far. Puppies haven't developed enough consciousness to mentally know "I'm tired, I can't go on" but rather are constantly trying to please and keep up with you.

For his sake, start playing more in the yard Fetch, even training, and light play in a yard are going to be better activities for a dog of his age. He shouldn't be going on long walks or jogs until he's much closer to a year old.

As a general guide, puppies should be walked about 5 minutes for each month of age. So at only 10 weeks, walks should only be about 10-12 minutes long.

Oops! Okay I'll def stop now then, thank you for the advice. I never went jogging with him yet, but I did take him for pretty long 30 min walks. I'll stop that though.
