Hi everyone,
So my family is now a new owner of a 4 month old husky. We already have a 5 yr old husky. Our older husky is constantly growling and barking at the puppy. We feed the older one first and she goes outside first and if they go on walks the older one leads. Is this the wrong thing to do?I am worried that they wont get along because they both have completely different personalities. The puppy is really friendly and relaxed, the older one is really hyper and territorial any advice?

Hi there, welcome! Oh, this scenario sounds so familiar! I too have a 5yr old female and we got our male at 3 months old. He's now 9monts so we've had him for 6months. I feed her first and she goes on walks first also. I just didn't want her to feel that her routine was changing. Unfortunately, I can't walk them together because she attacks him while leaving the house. Once we're out it's fine, but she gets very upset with him when he wants to cry at the door also. Basically, she's totally dominant over him, but they've learned to get along. It took about 3 months. They play and lay together now, but he respects her. She still snaps at him here and there, but never anything serious. I have some videos of them playing under the video section if you want to check them out.

My male is also very friendly and relaxed, and the female is very territorial over other dogs. Just have patience and correct her if you must, but when I was first going through this everybody on here advised that I let them work it out on their own and only step in if I must. It worked and now I think they both know where they stand.

She controls him/he loves her... basically that's it.. lol!

You're welcome. How long have you had the puppy? It took weeks for them to actually play and now it seems like they're at it all the time. I really felt that Mya was going to hate him forever, but now they're friends. Don't want to say buddies, but they're friends for sure!
