So...Valkyrie has been going downhill the last few days, a lot faster than we wanted or expected. She hardly eats at all and also has been drinking very little. We've been outside a lot so every morning we set down a blanket under a tree and DH carries her out and she watches us but mostly sleeps a lot. She doesn't participate in the games anymore either but we all make sure and give her lots of pets through the day. The pup we found still loves to take naps next to her and she seems to still enjoy that. She's been real snippy with Demon who can't seem to figure out why she doesn't want to play anymore so we've been trying to keep him occupied with fetch and other games so he'll leave her alone. He also likes to lay by her when he's tuckered out. We're guessing she's not going to be with us for much longer, maybe a week at the most but we are really hoping for longer. Just thought you would all want to know...

I'm sorry to hear this. I hope she knows just how much she's loved in her final days, however short they may be. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Her time has come. Valkyrie passed away Friday night. She passed in her sleep so we don't think she was in too much pain, if any. Before she went to bed she came up to everyone and gave us all kisses. We agree that it was her way of saying goodbye. Loki is taking it the hardest, though he is doing better and seems to know that she isn't coming back. Our kids are taking it better than expected. They miss her but since no one has claimed Loki they have a new puppy to play with so I think that's making it easier for everyone. Hopefully we won't have to deal with something like this again for twelve or more years!

I'm so sorry Ashley. That is one of the toughest things any of us has to go through. My deepest condolences to you, your family and dogs. May time heal your wounds quickly and fill your thoughts of her love filled life.

Your family gave Valkyrie the best love and care any dog could ask for in the short time you all had her. im sure she passed knowing that. I really believe Loki was sent to you for the kindness you were giving Valkyrie, i hope he helps heal your hearts with his puppy ways. please make a post in the rainbow bridge section as well with pictures so we can never forget about her. my thoughts are with you all at this sad time.

I am so sorry for you and your family's and your dog's loss. It's never easy to say goodbye to a family member. Please know that she recognizes that you and your family has given her so much love in the short time she was part of your family. And I hope you find some comfort in that.

You were the best dog parents any dog could ever ask for. Thank you for all that you did and I too hope that Loki is with you to stay and helps to heal your broken hearts.

I haven't had the heart to comment on this, but I wanted to say that you have handled this so selflessly and stronger than I ever could have. I bet Valkyrie was so thankful to have had her last few weeks with someone as wonderful as you! I'm so sorry though, it's so heartbreaking losing a pet. I lot my mini poodle sophomore year of HS (had her since I was 3) and I still think of her all the time! Thank you for being such a wonderful family to her. Valkyrie, I hope you have a wonderful time over the rainbow bridge!

Thanks everyone for the support. We're sad that she's gone but happy that she got to spend her last days with us instead of on the streets or in a shelter. We'll always remember her and what a sweet heart she was. Loki is definitely staying with us, hubby already got him chipped, licensed to us, first round of shots, and he's talking with the vet about when would be a good time to neuter him so we'll be keeping occupied with a puppy in the house.

How are Demon and Loki getting along? I'm so glad that he found your family and at the perfect time also! We need updated pics of Loki

Demon and Loki get along better than we thought they would. I've always heard to not get two dogs of the same sex because it'll cause aggression issues but so far there have been none. Demon does tend to get jealous if/when someone pets Loki but it's more like him getting in your face and demanding attention and he doesn't take it out on Loki. Demon does tend to play a little too rough with Loki for my liking but neither seem to be getting hurt and Loki does go hardcore after Demon whenever he's laying down so I don't feel so bad for the little pup lol. I think as long as we don't openly show that we favor one over the other they'll be great together.

You'll never forget her because of the love you had, the pain eases up but can come back in an instant when you remember all the good times with Valkyrie.
