My oldest cat Cheyenne has a vet appt on Saturday morning and there is a good chance they will be putting her down. I'm so sad...I've had her her whole life. She is my son's very first pet and my first one as an adult. After discussing her ailments, the vet tech gave me a sympathetic look and told me to bring her in and they will take a look, but at her age, they will not do anything aggressive. Sad

Oh Mindy I'm so sorry to hear that! This makes me so sad given that my parents doggie just passed and it's still so fresh Sad I know what you must be feeling right now. I'll be praying for Cheyenne and hope that you don't need to put her down. How old is this pretty girl?

So sorry Mindy. Sad Cheyenne is such a pretty girl, sounds like she's a nice long life with your family. I hope she's not suffering. I know these next few days and the weeks after will be very hard, whether you have time to prepare or not. I'm sure she knows how much you love her and appreciates all you've ever done for her. You and Cheyenne are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you! She's 15, soon to be 16. Again, I wasn't expecting to have to deal with this yet. I know indoor cats can live to be 20, so I thought it would be a couple more years yet. I've never had to put a pet down and I'm gonna be a blubbering idiot if they say it's time. I want to cry just thinking about it but I refuse to have them do it without me there. Sad

I truely feel you on that. My cat is about the same age now, he is still healthy and fit about considering his age I´m afraid of the time when that day comes.

Well, not good news. Vet said her kidneys are failing. He didn't mention putting her down yet. He thinks she can have some comfortable months still. He's very good about talking non-medical so you understand what's going on, so what he said is her kidneys are not producing enough of what she needs and not pushing out the stuff she doesn't need. He wanted to try giving her a bit more time by giving this injection and put her on a food that has all the stuff her kidneys aren't giving her and very low of the stuff her kidneys aren't pushing out of her. I think she will have to get the injection every month. Sorry, I was having a hard time when I was there so I may not have heard everything. They had a hard time getting blood from her and it was very hard for me not to break down watching her struggle. Things are gonna get a bit stressful around here. I have three animals on medication and all of them are on different food. This is going to be interesting to say the least. If there was one thing I have learned from all of this is do not get multiple animals that will be old at the same time! If this had happened only 2 years ago, I would not have the funds for all the medication and special food. I am very thankful that I can do what needs to be done for them when they need it most right now. But it's really hard to watch ONE animal struggle with age, let alone three. Sorry, I'm feeling a bit low right now.

Mindy, I'm sorry to hear it didn't go well and I really hope you are able to enjoy these few months. I'm glad that you have a vet who is good at explaining things. That was the one thing that I truly appreciated with my vet in Oklahoma when my kitty got sick earlier this year.

So sorry! I know we screwed ourselves. Our cats are brothers and 3 yrs older than our huskies who are about the same age. Knowing cats live longer than huskies usually, we're looking at 4 pets getting old at the same time! Sad

Thanks Meredith and Sara. I knew I would have to go through this someday but I reallly wasn't thinking about them all aging at the same time. Sara, atleast you have a long, long ways before you have to think about going through this. You have time to set some money aside for them. I wish I had thought of that. Having to medicate three at once is not cheap but I really am thankful I am able to do it. I'm gonna have to put my remodeling on the sidelines for now but each and every one of them are worth it. I keep wanting to give Cheyenne hugs but she is not the touchy feely type of cat. She probably thinks I'm crazy!

So sorry Mindy. At least you do have some time left with her and she's in good hands. I've thought many times about how my pack is all going to be old at the same time. It saddens me because I know it will be rough, but at the same time I remind myself that they came into my life for a reason...same as yours did.

I reported good news on Dakota but I don't really have good news on Cheyenne...atleast not yet. She received an injection at the vets and he said it would give her some pepp...not so much. I don't really see a change in her. we finished up the sample food they gave me and when I went to pick up an actual bag of food, I find out it's Hills Science Diet! Ugg! I came home and tried to goodle cat food for Kidney failure and I can't find any other alternative. She's eating it, but barely. She was barely eating her other food too so she isn't worse, but she isn't better either.

Thank you. The day I have to take her in for her final vet visit will be extremely hard, but I have come to terms that her time with us is limited and I'm just trying to make sure she is comfortable. She has had a really good, healthy life until now and has been very loved. I feel good about that.
