| Hello everyone, I am a second time husky owner, my original being a pedigree sibe with gorgeous blue eyes named Jack. Sadly, I had to seperate with him after 4 years. He was sad, but I left him in the hands of someone I trust. He is happy. About 1.5 years ago I got another Sibe, named Jack again... we have been doing well since. I know own my house so no more sad seperations, ever. He is incredibly obideient and respects me beyond what I can believe a sibe would. I absolutely adore this breed and have experience with them. I have noticed one thing though, Jack is not happy alone - it's a husky thing. He has to be with my 24x7 and sadly I need some alone time. He doesn't. So...... I have increased his walks, let him come inside almost all day blah blah but he still needs company. Huskies play rough so I decided mixing him with another breed is not a good idea. So, I am going to get another husky. 2 male huskies can get territorial so the female is an obvious choice. I know they need to be seperated when she reaches sexual maturity and is in heat. So my question: 1. Does anybody else have a male/female pair? Are they happier this way? 2. WIll they get mad at each other over toys/food/etc? 3. Any other things I should consider before pairing? 4. Jack is 1.5 years old and the new husky will only be a puppy, will they hurt each other? Do male huskies have a good instinct with puppies? ^I think they do. Jack has always had an obsession with a puppy sized husky stuffed animal I have. He puts it in his bed and brings it food and toys... I think he will be fine, but I just want to get some idea from fellow owners. Thank you everyone --- Happy huskying! I have looked at most of your pics of your beautiful huskies, congratulations! Here is Jack -- don't let his innocent looks fool you. |

| Wow, where to start...lol. Ok, so I don't think 2 males would be a bad thing. It just depends on the dogs personalities. Since you're getting a puppy it should be ok to get a male. Is Jack neutered? If not, I would get him neutered before getting another doggie. Whether it be male or female. If you get a male that should calm down his male dominance issues and if you get a female that's for obvious reasons..lol. I would get your new puppy neutered/spayed ASAP also. That will just make it easier for all of you. Plus, it's so much better for them health wise. I personally, got my male when my female was 4yrs old. I got a puppy because of her temperament. I knew she wouldn't tolerate another adult dog in the house. Now they're friends, but she totally dominants him. Every situation is different though. Please know that just because you're getting another one doesn't mean that Jack won't want your attention. Mya was SO SO attention needy and it got better once we got Kody, but now some times it's both of them begging for my attention! Even after lots of exercise! They both lay at my feet and sleep with us. So getting another won't completely make him stop stalking you...lol. That's just from my experience though. Others will comment and give you their advice Jack is adorable btw!!! Good luck on the search! |

| Hey!! T hank you for the reply. Mya and Kody are gorgeous too. I was laughing at the other thread with the 10 things about your husky. I know he won't stop stalking me, wouldn't want it any other way!!!! As much as they drive us insane, WE ALL LOVE HUSKIES!!! My wife makes fun of me because the first thing I do when I get home isn't eat, get a drink, do anything -- it's straight to find Jack! :-) My neighbors think I am nuts too because i hug and kiss him all the time - i <3 huskies! Anyway, I have a pretty big patio / yard and it's husky size, so jack stays out there all day and at the very end in an attached room is my home office. So jack has free roam to come see me as he pleases. I plan to have Jack and his new friend (Sally?) around me all the time. It'd just be nice if they could stalk each other for 20 minutes a day and leave me alone hahahah!!!!! Watch knowing my luck I will have double stalkers. Anyway thanks for the excellent advice. You don't think Jack might accidently hurt a puppy? He is rough to play but from my expiernce is good with smaller puppies. He is a VERY calm and Non-dominant dog. I have taken the dominance role and he knows it, although not always please, he respects such |

| LOL! Oh, they will definitely stalk each other way more than they stalk you! Kody harasses Mya A LOT!!! I think you would need to keep a close eye on them for the first month or 2 after bringing the puppy home. Mya wasn't very fond of Kody at first, but after a few weeks of having him she starting liking him. Here is them playing after about 2 weeks of having him I believe
You would be crating the new furbaby, right? |

| ^ I do not plan to crate ........... I have a small outdoor area that is roofed where I will put Sally (new pup) and Jack has the back covered patio (huge).
I have never been much in to crates since my huskies don't live indoors although they get free-roam of the house during the day, well jack does - i have no carpets - etc so it doesnt matter to me. Jack doesnt chew.
I am sure the new pup sally will have her 5 months of horror though. |

| I have two females and they do fine. I agree with getting at least the female spayed. First it will drive Jack insane! Male dogs go crazy when they smell a female in heat and will want to do nothing but get to the female. Some even stop eating! Plus there are added health benefits to spaying a female. http://breedingbetterdogs.com/pdfFiles/articles/long.term.health.effects.of.spay.neuter.in.dogs.pdf
I got Elara as a puppy when Siku was about 10months old. I did have to supervise their playtime. Siku was pretty good with Elara, but just the age and size difference made it not a good idea to leave the two alone together. I would keep the puppy separated from Jack when you are not there with them for at least a few months until she gets bigger. I would recommend getting a crate, so when you are not there to watch them, they can still see each other (if you put the crate out where you keep Jack).
Also, I don't know if you really want a different breed, but my girls get along with tons of other breeds. They play well with boxers, goldens, labs, flatcoats, and some of my mom's mutt dogs. They get along with other breeds too. There's just too many to list! |

| Oh mine are totally indoor dogs. I never leave them outside unattended. My yard isn't that secure in my opinion so I would never leave them out. Plus, I'm scared of somebody stealing one of my babies.
Yeah, gotta love that "ceramica" flooring..lol. This house is so old! I can't wait to move, but it seems like it's going to be another or 2 before we're able to buy our own place.
Si hablo espanol! Mis huskies son bi-lingual..lol! Un momento les digo "afuera" y el otro "outside", " vamos" or "lets go", ven (ben?) or "come",etc. Their version is pee and poop and is "pipi y caca outside"..LOL! Mya goes by Mami, gorda, or mimi. Kody is chichi, enano, or gordo. Those are their spanish names..lol. It's funny how they understand both languages! I'm in Miami...parents are Cuban, but I was born here. Where are you from? |

| ^ My house is setup in a weird way. My whole yard is a patio with a roof so I really have no "outdoors" which is why my dog lives outdoors but technically it's not outdoors.
Anyway ....
Tomorrow I am going to look into Sally...
Maybe I will have Jack and Sally.
Wish me luck all and thanks so much for the advice. |

| That they will getmad at each other over toys or food can happen form time to time, but especially in the first weeks when they sort out the packing order. But that this can happen sometimes is normal, no relationship is just happy times. |

| ^ thank you all. So it's official. I got Sally today. I am keeping them supervised. So far Jack has not gotten jealous at all with his food or toys around Sally. He does get jealous when we pay more attention to her. SO I make it even and say Hi to him too. So also, he likes to try and play with her (down in a leaning position, front paws and head down -- howling) but she is too scared. She runs after him but when he turns to her she gets scared. He also likes to swat / smack her -- which is how he plays but its too rough for her. She is little. So they have to be watched for now supervised... But they are going good togethert! |

| She is so adorable! I'm glad they seem to be getting along ok, and she will come out of her shell soon with Jack. We've got friends with bigger dogs, and Ghost was terrified of them when she was small. Once she realized she was getting bigger though, she was fine. Now we call one of those dogs her "boyfriend" - they just love each other. _________________ |

| ^ thanks!!!!!!!
My biggest issue right now is that Jack won't leave her alone.
Jack constantly wants to be all over her and play and she is not amused always. She sometimes gets snappy with him.
They are def friends though.
When I let her inside and leave jack out back, they sit by the Windows crying ... so i let them both our then she gets mad when he bothers her.
Guess they will have to work something out haha! |

| ^ Thanks! Beautiful Huskies... love the names (Sierra and Jack hehe). Sally is only 7 weeks old. Jack is a year and a half. I try to keep jack away if I hear her yelp but she wants to be with jack. She whines if she is not with him. It's weird. Jack sometimes acts like it is his child (he will clean her, teach her stuff, bring her stuff - and try to move her) I have witnessed all this is only 36 hours! I am sure they will get used to each other. Right now they are both passed out together in my office. Jack does this when it rains (gets sleep) and I guess Sally does too - a husky thing? |
