| Hey everyone ! I just got my baby last week and I was researching the breed and preparing myself for weeks before I got him and found this site. We ended up naming him Atka which means guardian spirit in Inuit. He is 8 weeks old today :] I had a few questions and can't seem to find answers anywhere. My best friends mom is a groomer but we don't live by her anymore, she uses a high powered blower/ dryer to help shed dogs fur. I looked for something similar to hers but obviously not industrial since I'll just be using it on Atka and I wanted to know if any of you have used them for your dogs and which one I should get thats powerful enough for his thick fur. Also, this may sound dumb but Atka doesn't have blue eyes. The majority of his litter didn't either. What's up with that? We look forward to being a part of your community ! |

| Congratulations on your new fur baby! Atka is super cute! Honestly, I think most of us just brush our dogs, though some other members may chime in with other stuff. We just brush ours a couple times a week and vacuum up whatever she sheds. We have 4 furkids in the house though, so we vacuum a lot regardless. Where are you from? Here in the south, there seems to be a trend of shaving Huskies "so they can stay cool in summer". Don't EVER shave him. It ruins their coats and their ability to regulate their body temperature. As far as the eyes go, Huskies can have brown, blue, or any combination. There are several members here who's dogs have parti eyes, which means they are part blue and part brown. You'll find tons of information here, and if there isn't already a thread covering a question, feel free to start a new one! | Hi Lainaloo, and welcome to the forum! I'm not sure why the general search isn't working on this one, but here's the thread we have on High-velocity dryers. In short, we highly recommend them! HV DryersAs for blue eyes, that's not a genetic necessity of a husky. Just like people, huskies CAN have blue eyes, but that trait does not always show. My guess is that your breeder is using parents who, when combined, have a higher chance of brown eyed combinations Where are you located? Atka is super handsome! | Hey, I see you're from Enterprise, AL. We're not *that* far away, only about 2-2.5 hours. We're in Milton, which is just east of Pensacola. We should try to find a park between the two of us and arrange a meetup. There's another member here from Crestview, but I haven't heard from them in a couple months. There really aren't many Huskies around here, not sure about up your way. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. It's a boy ! Was Atka a bad choice for a name? It means guardian spirit in Inuit and I wanted an Inuit name. They pretty much all end in "-ka" |

There aren't really except the people I got him from. I'll definitely keep on touch We're going to be in and out for the Holidays, but most weekends we could squeeze in a little road trip. Send me a PM or hit me up on Facebook (last name Albrecht). Ghost has only met 2 other Huskies, and she was so excited. I'm thrilled to have someone reasonably close!! _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I don't know whether it is different in the US, but here in the UK about 75% of sibes have brown eyes, 15% blue, 5% Bi-eyed, and 5% yellow or green.

| ^ Haha...depends on where you go. At out snowdog meet ups, I'd say most have blue eyes, but at a dog show, very few have blue eyes. I think the BYB's like to breed for blue eyes cause they sell, and reputable breeders either don't care or have a bias for brown eyes. _________________ -Sara |

| Welcome - a lot of great stuff here.
We're waiting for our husky so please post your experiences this far!
On the eyes thing - how long will it take to really see their true eye color - or are they born with blue/brown eyes from birth? |
