| Received the Omnijore system in the mail today and like a kid at Christmas I had to try it out right away. No pics yet since I wasn't sure what to expect and I didn't want to divert my attention. I will get some and post later.
Canicross trial #1:
First up the big guy Blaze. He took off running as soon as I turned loose of the harness. Unfortunately he had very little sense of direction. He also stopped a lot, which is totally different than I expected since he is the one on walks that always keeps his head up and moving. I'll have to work on the "on by" command with him for sure.
Secondly, it was Mikko's turn. Keep in ming I took Mikko to a 2 day mushing clinic in 2005 put on by Karen Ramstead of Iditarod fame. We were taught the very basics of mushing. Line out, on by, hike and a little bit of gee and haw. Mikko didn't want to run right off, he just wandered around the yard. He is very good off leash about not leaving me so with so much slack in the line he just sniffed around. Then I gave the line out command and started to jog, he was a natural. Head down the street with the line mostly taut all the way. One stop to sniff was short lived when I told him "on by".
Both runs were very short, just down the block and back. Blaze I would give a average mark as to what I expected with little or no training. Mikko far exceeded by expectations since I didn't think he would remember back to 2005. At 9 years old I'm not sure how much I should work Mikko, he shows the early stage of arthritis and I don't want the impact to injure him. We'll see what he's up for with some short outings.
The Omnijore system is very nice, easy to hook up and comfortable to wear. Thumbs up there! I'm very excited and will post more later, hopefully with pics.

| sweet Brian!
I did like the belt and the harness but wasn't so sure about the line. Since I really like the x-back harnesses I have for G&S, I'm more interested in the belt as it has 3 things I really like about it: water bottle pocket, completely removeable leg loops, and quick release from you and the line.
The belts I have (one from Adanac Sleds and the other from Alpine Outfitters) have leg loops that can be buckled off to the side but not completely removeable. The belt from Adanac Sleds has a water bottle pocket, but it's small, so it would hold a small, maybe 16 oz store bought water bottle at best. Neither belts I have a quick release unless you get an extension to the line with a 'quick release snap' which still isn't going to be as quick and easy as the Omnijore belt.
The one thing I didn't like about the Omnijore belt that I do like about my Alpine belt is that the line can move from side to side whereas the Alpine belt will always center the line and pull from your midsection and front (not from the side if your husky goes off to one side) - this throws off my center of balance. That could just be me, though.
I look forward to pictures! I'm glad you like it so far!

| Can't comment much with just a short trial. I think the bottle pocket will hold my 30oz sport bottle. The leg loops adjusted easily while attached. The quick release is quick but retrieving the dog not so quick. The line seemed fine but I don't have much to compare it to. I love bungee leashes in general though. The harness was easier to get on a squirming dog than my X back and seemed to stay in place just as good with the belly band attached. I see if I can get my wifes help on getting some pics. |
