Zoey hasn't been herself at all lately, she isn't begging, she's constantly sleeping and just out of it. My friends labxgolden has been coughing a lot, and is over at my house often and I think he might have kennel cough, he also has the vaccination. Embry and Zoey's daycare posted today that they had a recent case of KC at their facility. Do you guys think it's possibly she caught it? I'm sad tomorrow was supposed to be dog park day for them, but I'm not gonna bring them if they have KC

No vaccine offers 100% prevention. If she has it, it is easily cleared up with antibiotics though.

| Definitely have her vet checked. The vaccine only protects against certain strains but there are many more strains out there that dogs can get that the vaccine doesn't cover. That's why I never get the bordetella vaccine for my dogs. They're healthy, don't get the vaccine, and don't pick it up even when they are directly exposed to dogs who do have kennel cough. Dakota came home from the shelter with kennel cough when we adopted him. We took him to our vet but they didn't put him on anything and Dakota recovered on his own in a couple weeks. _________________ ~~Val~~

It's very similar to the human flu. The vaccine may or may not work although lots of boarding / daycare places require it. I agree with Val it's best to let them build up immunity, which is what most holistic vets recommend. It is something that also should be examined by a vet if you suspect they have it as complications can arise in some dogs with weaker immune systems.

Yep they can get it even with the vacc. Kale is just recovering from a mild case right now; got it at the dog park last week. I told myself I'd only take him if he started coughing, but he just got watery eyes and the sneezies lol He coughed a few times one day, but that was it. So I let he get over it without antibiotics.

Luka got it even when she was vaccinated. We don't vaccinated against it anymore. Our vet did not recommend any antibiotics. She had us go to a natural food store and get some all natural cough syrup. It really helped reduce the coughing. I think it had cherry bark as the main ingredient, but it was safe for dogs, no artificial colors or sweeteners.
