| I would've gone ahead and written it all up myself, but I'm in need of the same advice now lol. I was thinking someone should gather some data/info and make a feeding portion sticky/article/post that could include daily feeding portion size, amounts, minimum and maximum average caloric intake amounts for dogs at puppy, year old mark, and 2-3+ years, and how much to feed in correlation with activity levels measured in time increments (30min-1hr walking, playing or running; 2hr, etc.) I know I personally had been wondering how much I should feed Koda since he's hit the year-mark. He weighs about 42+, but I wonder if he could use a bit more meat on his bones at this age. I know if some of the information mentioned above was readily available, it would definitely cut back on questions like these being asked often. Just a suggestion I had at 1:22 am lol! |

| While it's a good suggestion and I'll leave it to the nutritional bookworms to answer concretely, I don't know if that would work. Honestly, like people, every dog's metabolism is different and every dog's digestive system is different. Depending on the types of protein or the way your dog reacts to proteins will change how much food to feed. It differs for kibble, vs wet, vs raw. The ONLY way to truly figure out how much to feed is trial and error. I still don't have an exact measurement. We adjust constantly. They get slightly more when I see them losing weight in the winter and slightly less when they start putting on pounds in the summer. It's just a guess and check game So long as they are getting food, you're not harming them _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| I agree with Tori. Based off of most suggestions we were over feeding Appa, but his metabolism was cranking so high we had to to keep his weight on. It's a guess and check system. You have to feed whatever your dog needs and it all depends on size + age + activity + metabolism + quality of food, etc.
I would say what you are looking for is pretty much already available, it's on the back of your bag of dog food. The only difference is that huskies tend to need less than suggested. We found our guy needed precisely what was suggested.... for awhile. |

| Hmm..Hmm makes sense now that I think about it like that. During the winter, Koda had gone through a phase of eating significantly less: barely half a bowl during feedings twice a day. I assume it was because his growth was slowing as he neared that year mark, but at the time I was definitely worrying. Vet appointments confirmed he was fine (general check ups, full blood chemistry for other purposes) so I didn't worry as much.
Now he's eating about 2 cups a day and he's fairly active. Daily walks, zoomie sessions in the house, and full on playtime is how he works off the food. I didn't know if I should feed him 2.5 or 3 cups a day for more weight or not. I'll double check my dogfood bag and see what it says, then go from there. |
