My local animal shelter, Seminole County Animal Services, is entered into a really big contest! They are hoping to win the grand prize of $100K and open their own spay/neuter clinic!



They are asking everyone to "Paws" to vote for Seminole! Voting is between April 5th thru April 16th and you can vote once a day. Winners of the voting round go on to try and raise their adoption numbers from last Sept., Oct., and Nov. to this year's Sept., Oct., and Nov. Seminole must raise their numbers by 300 more animals! Which hopefully won't be too hard since they get so many animals in and do great adoption events!

I'm really rooting for Seminole! They have a wonderful staff and amazing foster/volunteer coordinator. They foster out kittens and puppies who are too small to be spayed/neutered and put them up for adoption once they are the right weight. They foster out sick or injured cats and dogs. They have a wonderful group called T.E.A.R.S. who does fund raisers for them to help pay for medical treatments for sick and injured animals. They do wonderful adoption events and one is totally aimed at rescues and not the shelter itself! It's a great opportunity for rescues to get one on one time with the public looking for animals to adopt. I really can't say enough about this shelter. They are county run and so are a "kill" shelter, but they truely try to save as many animals as possible. They extend the time they keep adoptable pets for as long as possible. Last time I was in there they were taking new pictures of one poor pit mix who has been sitting at the shelter for over 6 months. I don't think there are a ton of kill shelters who would hold a nice dog for that long. Hopefully her new pictures will capture some interest on petfinder and she'll get adopted soon! The staff really like her and decorate her kennel with signs saying how much of a great dog she is and how badly she needs a forever home.

Three of my mom's dogs are from Seminole.
From left to right the 2nd, 5th, and 8th dogs are from Seminole. The first is her friend's dog and 4th was a rescue who's found a home. The rest are my moms! All rescues!

lol. Fingers crossed! I know they would do a lot of good with the money if they did win. They won some of those shelter challenges on theanimalrescuesite.com and won about $1,000 each time. They put in a really nice indoor/outdoor cat room, so all the kitties didn't have to be in small cages and re-did their bigger dog runs where people can meet the dogs.
