So, I just figured out the problem in my last thread
https://www.itsahuskything.com/t4917-can-a-5-month-old-impregnate-a-female-dog

Our neighbor has an unfixed female dog. That's the reason why Tobi likes to go outside so much and pretty much ignore me. I'm guessing because of her scent he has been trying to hump dogs he meets out of this frustration. He will try to mount Poppy and she will growl at him and I don't want them hurting each other, so I have to watch them as well. I've been correcting this with firm "no"s and I'm happy he listens. It's a frustrating coincidence that he's right at the puberty mark and she happens to be in heat.

He will be neutered next week. Since I can't do anything about my neighbor's dog, I'm not going to let him outside just in case he will try to get at this dog. What can I do to stop Tobi from whining at the door to go outside? Is there a way to distract him from this? Because I've tried playing with him..food..toys..kongs..He's really uninterested
Ive been thinking about having him stay at a friends house until he gets neutered, is that a better idea?

Also, do fixed males still get aroused around females in heat? Because my neighbor has had this dog for +3years and Im sure he's unlikely to get her fixed. I want to be ready in the long run for Tobi

Poor Tobi! That really sucks. There isn't much you can do. I think some people try to rub a little vapor rub on the male's nose, but I'm not sure if that's okay for the dog or not. Maybe talk to your vet and see. He should calm down a lot after getting neutered, but may still show a little interest in females in heat. Males do go nuts when a female is in heat! That's how so many accidental litters happen. People just don't understand the desire and then the sheer power of their dogs! lol. My friend's great danes just had an accidental litter when their female broke out of her kennel and got to the male! Guess I didn't lecture her enough.

Sorry to say, he's probably going to be a nightmare until the female goes out of heat. It might help if he goes to a friend's house. Is he still eating? Some males stop eating too!
