2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Howling while we are gone during the day Empty
PostSubject: Howling while we are gone during the day   Howling while we are gone during the day EmptyMon Jun 04, 2012 5:40 pm

We live in a house that has been converted into 4 apartments. One of our neighbors leaves later in the morning, and says that he has heard Dalton making quite a bit of noise on occasion. Thankfully he's very nice and accommodating, but we don't want Dalton to make a habit of it.

Right now we are putting him in doggy daycare 2X a week which tires him out for a day or so after he's been there. He's walked/jogged in the morning and evening when he's not in daycare. We also give him bones, toys and fill up the Kong with peanut butter. (Not all at the same time, and the bones and toys we leave him with are safe to have him chew for longer periods of time) He's confined to half the living room, so he's not locked in the kennel, and he's never alone for more than 7 hours during the day while we are at work. (not that 7 hours is short, but it's the best we can manage with our schedules the way they are)

My question is, what are some other ways we can mitigate his loneliness/anxiety/boredom while we are at work during the day? We really don't want to have a bad relationship with our neighbor because D is causing a ruckus!

Getting another companion pet isn't an option at this point, but something we would consider later.

u can try leaving the tv on like on animal planet or some animal channel. that noise might keep him occupied. also, you could try freezing the kong toy which would probably keep him occupied around an hour or so. good luck Very Happy

The girls aren't left very often since I work from home, but our dog sitter recommended a radio. She's in and out the few times we're gone and she says Toccoa is much calmer/quieter when it's on.

We have tried both of those in the past, but we were also still crate training him at that point. Perhaps we'll have to circulate those back into the routine. Thanks so much for the ideas!
