| Hi everyone, I'm new the forum with a 2 year old Husky named Zeus. The other night he went outside for a little bit and when he was ready to come back in he made a noise by the door. When I went to let him though he was just laying very still on the ground. I go over to check on him and his eyes are open and he seems aware of me, but he's just kind of laying there frozen. He isn't breathing heavy and his mouth is closed and his eyes are just kind of wide open. This seemed to last a minute or so and then its like he starts to snap out of it. He will start licking his mouth and then start panting a little more normal and then eventually be able to stand back up. He seems a little awkward when he first gets back up to his feet, but he doesn't really seem disoriented or do anything else out of the ordinary.
This is now the 2nd time that this type of incident happened in about a 6 month period that we know of. My dad had saw him act like this once before, but just stayed with him petting and reassuring him until he snaps out of it. He described it with the same symptoms. We also had a German Shepard once that had epileptic seizures which were much more obvious with shaking and twitching so that why I'm not sure if that's what this is.
Has anyone experienced this with their Husky before and can possible provide some insight into how serious this may be? I plan to take him to the vet soon, but I know how expensive running tests can sometimes be if the symptoms aren't clear enough for the vet. Is it possible Zeus is just teaching himself how to convincingly play dead (wishful thinking)? Thanks in advance for taking time to read my post.
Thanks, David |

| Unfortunately huskies are one of the breeds that are prone to seizures. We had a husky before the one we currently own and it started off slow like that and then eventually progressed. We had to put her down at age 1 1/2 years because she had four seizures in 24 hours. Please don't wait until the symptoms worsen, there is medication that can help with this problem! Go see your vet! |
