PostSubject: CKC Registration?   CKC Registration? EmptyWed Aug 15, 2012 9:08 am

When we purchased our puppy, we had a registration paper given to us for us to register him with the CKC. My question is, i've heard of AKC but not of CKC and is it something that I should/need to do? Thanks!

CKC Is the Canadian Kennel Club.

Being as how you're from NC you shouldn't have to register your pup with the CKC unless you plan on showing or competing in Canada I would think.

It is however possible the Sire or Dam was a Canadian Dog (More likely the Sire) and they just included the registration paper if you needed it.

Registering CAN help you cross the border to Canada with a dog, but all you really need is a rabies medallion or a note / proof of the vaccine.

Do the papers say Canadian Kennel Club or Continental Kennel Club? You fill them out like you would with AKC papers I believe, though if they are continental, I wouldn't bother. They are pretty much a kennel club set up by puppy mills to make their puppies look better (you can charge more for a registered pup right?!). The Canadian one is fine and just Canada's equivalent of AKC.

thanks! it says continental kennel club. i've been trying to do research all morning after posting this. on my paperwork it says the sire and damn are AKC registered- so why wouldn't my puppy automatically be AKC instead of CKC? thank you

I don't know why they would choose CKC over AKC. Can you talk with the breeders about it? Are you wanting to show your sibe in anything? If not, you don't have to bother with papers really.

The CKC is more lenient on registration then the AKC. Meaning you have the $'s they'll let you register .

My bad on this. Thanks Sara.

I know it isn't unheard of a dog being both AKC and CANKC registered so I just figured it was the Canadian one.

I had no knowledge of the Continental, am now glad I know Smile
