After some discussion here today, I am starting to doubt that the person I got my husky/lab mix (75% husky, 25% lab) told me the complete truth about her age. According to the DOB I was given, my little girl is currently 9 weeks old... and just under 4lbs. I was told she was the runt, but I am curious to see other's puppy pictures so I can compare!! Please post with the age in weeks Smile Thank you!

This is Hayden at 9 weeks - he was about 15 lbs

You're little girl looks a lot younger than 9 weeks ... has you're vet estimated her age?

I already showed you a couple, but this one might give a better idea:

The day we brought them home at 8 weeks:

She's standing right next to the stove and the drawer is the average stove drawer, maybe 1ft high or so?

Honestly, the vet admitted that she was pretty small but when I told her she was the runt, she didn't seem to doubt her age. I guess because she looks and acts like a healthy pup. But yeah, I agree, it is almost unbelievable that she could be so small at 9 weeks. I contacted the person I got her from, and she just texted me "they were born the week before Christmas," and then immediately, "I mean the week before December." I drilled her at that point but she is sticking to the story of the week before December, just like she told me in the beginning. She lives 3 hours away so my only communication with her is via phone. I really don't know what to believe! Sky is already crate trained and almost completely potty trained, and she can "Sit," so she is doing really well if she is much younger.

Also, is there the possibility that because she is a mix, that could affect her size? The thing is, the other breed is a lab... not the smallest dog in the world haha. And I saw both parents, who were large dogs.

very cute! Another thing I just realized might be a weird sign - she suckles on my fingers a lot. I usually don't let her, but it will start out as her licking my hand and then she will start sucking on my fingers, one by one. And she has played a lot with my boyfriend's dog, who is a female, and she is always looking for a nip!! Is that pretty normal for puppies that are just taken from their parents, or is that only for younger pups??

Curious! I got both my puppies at around 9-10 weeks of age. Neither of my puppies suckled or look for nips to suck on.

If I were you, I would contact the lady that bred the pups and ask her for the name and number of some of the people she sold the other pups to because you want to schedule a "play date" and ask them what their size is and ask them of their thoughts on the age etc.

My pup definitely did not "suckle" when i got her at 8 weeks old. I'm thinking she's probably much younger than you think, but again...I have no idea . I would go with what Kelly suggested. Good Luck! Smile

This is my baby at 7 weeks old. He weighed 9 lbs and he is 1/2 Husky and 1/2 Pit Bull Terrier. I'm not too sure if I believe the age the breeder gave you either.. The slip up date of birth she gave was probably more accurate "The week before Christmas" that would make him more like 7 weeks old.. I also know that kittens that are taken away from their mother too soon will suckle and knead on humans sometimes their entire life. As long as he is eating well I wouldn't worry and you may try adding a mothers milk supplement to his food too..

Thanks! Sky has grown 1.5 pounds in the past week so I'm hoping she will grow fast and catch up Smile And it makes a lot more sense if she is only 7 weeks instead of 9!

The whole suckling thing makes me think that your pup is probably younger as well - Luka was 7 weeks and 5 days when we brought him home and i've never experienced that with him - i would have picked up on it since i was with him 2/7 for the first 3 weeks!

I just don't understand why the owner would lie to me about it :/ Especially when I double-checked with her! It's not like I was going to "return" my pup...

Well that person is not a reputable breeder for many reasons..1- a reputable breeder would have never aloud a mixed breed to breed a pure breed. 2- A reputable breeder would know the exact date of birth sometimes down to the time of birth. 3- A reputable breeder would never sell a puppy or give away a puppy younger than 8 weeks sometimes 10 weeks old especially for a runt.. I could go on and on. I got my Nanook from an Animal Shelter and out of 5 pups he and 1 sister are the only ones that found homes the others were euthanized . So sad I wish my home and land were bigger I would have taken them all.. I am glad she is with you now and as long as you continue with caring the way you do she will be fine.. I'll never understand some people.. I am having to pay an extra 50 on top 0f 200 to have my kitten an abortion along with her spay because I thought she was too young to go into heat but guess what I caught her outside with a stray male.. I know it sounds cruel but in my mind it would be even more cruel to let her have them and give them away to homes that I would never really know if they were taken care of or spayed and neutered, and I'm just not willing to add to the animals being put down every day it's awful..My neighborhood is riddled with strays it's so sad..

:/ I don't understand how anyone could NOT care about the future well-being of an animal..

I wasn't really looking to get a pure-bred dog though,, my favorite dog in the world was a mutt from the humane society (passed last November at age 11..) and to this day I don't really know what his gene pool looked like!

Originally I did go to my local animal shelter, but I live in a pretty small town and almost all the dogs there had some sort of pit or chow mixed in.. which I did not want. I talked to this "breeder" (although I think it was accidental, she wasn't in it for the money obviously since she only asked $50 a pup) for about a week before I made the drive out to her house (a few hrs away), and I immediately fell in love with the little girl.

And I am definitely getting her spayed. Believe it or not, I had posted some pictures on facebook and a guy friend messaged me tonight about his dog, a blue heeler/husky mix, asking if I would be interested in breeding eventually! I was like UMMMM no. Hah. People are crazy!

I got Siku at 6 weeks and Elara at 8 weeks and neither of them suckled. Did the vet look at her teeth? Their teeth start coming in around 5 to 6 weeks I think. My friend got a puppy and he liked to suckle on fingers and he was probably only 3 weeks old when she got him! He didn't even have teeth yet and the lady tried to tell my friend that he could eat kibble!

We picked her up the day she turned 10 weeks, and she's never displayed any suckling behavior.

Sky is adorable though Smile

I currently rent, and to get a dog at the duplex I live in, you have to put down a deposit etc., and one of the stipulations in the pet contract is no pitbulls or even pit mixes. I think it is just a management thing, due to assumed aggression or maybe because they are thought to be extra destructive? And I didn't want anything to do with chows because one my best friends from high school's stepmother was attacked by their chow while he and his dad were on a trip and she was found dead (and almost unrecognizable) in the backyard after :/ I'm not trying to stereotype, but I don't want to take a chance on that, as this dog will be with me probably by the time I start having kids. So yeah, that's why!

@paleobones - Sky looks about the same now as yours does at 6 weeks Smile And I totally understand about them being always on the move, Sky has started charging my camera any time I pull it out! haha

@SaraB - She definitely has teeth..... LOL. She had already started on dry food (with a little water added) when I got her, and she was perfectly able to eat that, and now she's on completely dry food.

@blueeyeghost - I love your username Smile and thank you! All of y'alls puppy pictures are sooo cute! Sky isn't quite as fluffy haha that's the lab in her I suppose, but I can imagine the fun of a little furball exploring the house (:
