PostSubject: Should i get another husky puppy?   Should i get another husky puppy? EmptyThu Dec 20, 2012 1:19 am

Hello everyone my name i Ivan, i am new here. I have a question and i hope somebody can help me. I got my husky puppy Ozzy a few days before thanksgiving day. When i got him he was about 6 weeks old, now he is about two months. here is my question, should i get another husky puppy from the same litter? they have been apart for more that a month. Both of them are males. I feel i should get him a play buddy because sometimes i have to stay extra hours at work.

Honestly I wouldn't add another into your pack until you are satisfied with the training of your first. Two puppies may be double the fun but they're also double the work.

Definitely double the work, and frustration and money! But they do keep each other company. I would tend to not get two of the same sex though, even though they are from the same litter.

I would wait a bit until your husky is older. We got Kaiser when Dante was about 10 months or so. It's much easier to worry about training one new puppy versus trying to train two at the same time. Also, when you DO go I would worry less about gender than how they get along together. We pet sat a friend's female husky for about two weeks, and Dante pretty much ignored her. When we got Kaiser Dante started playing and cuddling with him right away. Same when we adopted Gage last month. Dante seems to prefer living with males. Most people I know advise against getting two litter mates. They tend to bond more with each other than their owner, which make make them harder to train, and they may also be more likely to develop separation anxiety if they are not separated enough.

It’s hard to say in your situation, but it is definitely double the work. I wouldn’t worry too much about 2 of the same sex as if they get along. I have 2 males and they get along fine.

Since they were litter mates I don’t know if there would be a connection between them already or if that even makes a difference.

I know I am glad I got a second one, but I am also glad I waited until Nikko was where I wanted him to be with training before I got Yukon.

I agree that you need to wait until this current puppy is fully house trained. I would wait until it is at least 6 months old if not older.
