New husky puppy (help) Empty
PostSubject: New husky puppy (help)   New husky puppy (help) EmptyFri Apr 26, 2013 1:28 am

Hey guys I'm new & going to be 100% honest, I knew nothing about huskys when we got our pup (shes going onto 3 months) but everyday I try an do research to find out more about the breed. Infact we wernt planning on getting her but my brothers wanted to go to the pet store that day just to look around. As they were about to walk out they spotted our little Willow. At first I was against my brothers because I do not like to support petshops but my brothers will do what they want an I'll have to accept it either way as I live here half the time &, really have no choice. Now we have her an although I'm still not very fond of petshops I'm glad we found her that day. It almost seemed ment to be really. I do know though that huskys are very hard work! we take her out and try to play with her but I find every few hours shes sleeping..I was hoping you guys could help me answer a few questions. Is all the sleepiness from her still being a pup?? I mean she does have her overly hyperactive moments that sometimes even seem to much to bare. Shes also a nibbler and a biter, I was reading online to teach a puppy to submit as it will also help with the biting but when I tried to do it she bit me very hard and became upset, after I also became upset because compared to her nibbles her bites were much harder. I'd realized quickly that I shouldnt be as shes just a pup an even though her bites our painful she knows no better which is why we have to train her. What is a good way to make a pup submit if you know? and how can I stop her from nipping, nibbling and biting altogether?? Ive also read online that huskys do not do well with smaller animals an I do have a dog who is smaller then her but much older, for this I fear because I hear of all the stories on how huskys even raised with small animals will turn on them quickly which worries me, How can I ensure that this will not happen or try my best to prevent it? You see my older dog is a bit snappy towards Willow (the pup) because Willow constantly wants to play with her an gets in her face but since shes older she doesn't want to play an becomes frustrated, a lot of people say let it play out so that the pup gets put in her place, but is this a good idea?? as of now we are looking into puppy kindergarten training and hoping everything goes well..any advice an input you have for me feel free! I do try an make sure she gets atleast 40mins to an hour or more of exercise a day an we do try an play with her but she never wants to play with us because she'd much rather play with our older dog who does not wanna play! anyway hope I get some help an input! thanks :]

Pups sleep. A LOT. Enjoy it while you can!! hahaha
Also, There is a really great topic already on how to stop biting. You can find that right here- https://www.itsahuskything.com/t1646-puppy-biting?highlight=Biting

And, Let the other dog put her in her place while she can, The pups mother would do the same thing! Smile The pup will learn to respect her that way no matter how big she gets, Huskies do play rough so just keep an eye on them, Mine is around cats all the time and does fine. Many, MANY, Huskies are around little dogs with no problems. Smile
