Biking Without Disaster

I'm enticed by the idea of riding my bike with Kavik when he's older, but I'm terrified that it will be a mess. Him yanking the bike over, or running around it, and both of us getting tangled up and hurt from the thing. Has anyone biked with their dogs? What harness, rigging, or bike did you use? Is there a way to train him before getting on one?

Walky dog......best thing ever. Ripley does amazing with it. It attaches to the sear bar and then clips to their collar. They stay beside you and its kinda hard to fall over. It takes a while for you to get used to the sensation of the dog beside you, and for your paces to match up, but if is has been great for us. Tika isn't wild about it, she prefers pulling on Rollerblades, but Rip is happy with any type of exercise

I second the Walky Dog. We've never had any problems with Ghost pulling the bike over.

I'm new to biking too. I have never used the walky dog or springer, but as soon as his harness showed up from Alpine Outfitters, I just hooked him up and away we went! I have about an 8 ft lead attached just under the handle bars and found it surprisingly easy to control him and the bike. I am tall though and lowered the seat on a short mountain bike so I could put my feet down quicker with more control. Working on our directional commands but this set up seems to work pretty well for us so far!

I just hook the girls to the front of my bike let them go. They're pretty good with slowing down when i say but man do they take off when we get out of the driveway Shocked

I'm not too worried about falling down and hurting myself, I've done it plenty of times before without the pups. I'm hoping to get some kind of attachment soon.

I used to take Maya out on my razor scooter and had many accidents, the bike is much easier with better brakes. I just have to make sure to spot any squirrel before Kay does.

This is good to know...I love biking and got one for my bday last year from the hubby, but I never have time to ride it. But if that's how I can exercise Karli when she gets older then I'm set. Biking would get her a better workout anyways. I haven't been on rollerblades in years so I don't think that would be a good idea. My hubby is worried that Karli and I will crash, but I see where this makes way more sense!

Nothing specific just get him trained for when I could hook him up to a sled.

Will do the most important thing I learned was if you have him out front control your bike speed with the brakes.
