| I have 2 dane/husky mix that actually dig like their life depends on it , they dig some holes , they cover a hole , by doing another hole. Any ideas if this is normal and if there is a way to stop it? |

| It's normal. Sitka has started digging now that he's got a yard to roam free in. It's a nightmare. I'll leave it up to others as far as advice on how to stop it. _________________ Posts made by me are not associated or approved by itsahuskything.com. | Mine were relentless when they were younger. I ended up using a flower bed as a permanent place for them to dig. The softer dirt made it easy to get them only digging in one spot. They don't really get as intense with it anymore, but when the Saint Bernard starts in he can move some Earth! I bet those Dane feet can too. |

| Can we stop them? HAHAHAHA! Oh, that's funny! Slow them down a little maybe. Our whole fence line is covered by patio blocks laid in the ground, just trying to keep ahead of their attempts to escape! And the middle of the yard is a series of craters. Isis and Mika have tripped in them a couple of times, but that has not deterred them from digging them. Good luck with that! |

| Yeah, those dane feet make my life miserable, they both look huskys, with the exception of their size and their feet, and those feet are frigin digging machines. As for the fence , they both escaped once and brouth back a dead chicken from the neighbor between their teeth lol. Had to cover with blocks the fence too. |

| We sometimes joke that we should send them to the neighbor's yard. She has a garden every year, and we figure why get the tiller out? These three could get it done in no time! |

| What about hunting problems? Every small animal that enters your backyard dies as well? Im guessing thats husky behavior as well. |

| Mine actually trap things teaming up. Chickens, lizards, marmotas (type of squirl we have here in spain) or CATS are as well as dead. They havent catch a cat yet , but God knows they have tried. |

| Yup-- all husky traits: digging, high prey drive, stubbornness, independence. Although, you do get the prey drive from the Dane side too. Both dogs are known for it.
I have no idea how to stop the digging, since our back yard is filled with craters as well. The only idea we have is like harrise said, to give them an appropriate place to dig like a sandbox. The prey drive is not something you can really stop without hard, consistent training and even then it's not a guarantee. It's best to socialize it out of them when they are very young. _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |
