Dominance/ territorial behavior... I think? Empty
PostSubject: Dominance/ territorial behavior... I think?    Dominance/ territorial behavior... I think? EmptyFri Mar 22, 2013 11:54 pm

I'm having an issue with Murphy, and I could use some input. Normally she is great with other dogs, but lately she has been being a bully. She's started growling and jumping on top of other dogs, and if they show submissive behavior she gets worse. She flips them and will not leave them alone. It was fairly harmless in the beginning and she would back off if a dog stood up to her, but now she's getting a little aggressive about it...

She's always been a dominant dog, but never a bully like this. I frequent the dog park closest to our house, and she is definitely the worst there. We have been going there since she was old enough to go and we've never had these problems before...

She backs off if I yell at her, but goes right back to the dog, or picks on another. Could she be getting territorial of the dog park? What should/can I do about it? Should I just avoid this park for a while? Anyone had a problem like this before?

She is almost 2 ( her b-day is the 31st!) in case age has anything to do with it... Its no fun (not to mention irresponsible) to go to the park like this!

Maya's the same way, i don't really take her anymore. Though i plan to take her alone and just remove her from play when she acts like that.

My hybrid boy is a bully as well. Very dominant over his brother and it seems that I am always trying to get him to recognize that I am the leader. He respects my boyfriend (he is a total daddy's boy)... but I am a different story.

He hasnt gotten bully-ish at the park yet, just in his home.

Is she spayed?

Nicky tries to do this some times at the dog park, but I will leash her up immediately as soon as she display's this behavior. If she continues, we leave, which thankfully hasn't come to that. Lately, I get her more focused in on me by playing ball with her, which she LOVES! We use the chuck it and she will chase it for hours. If you know she likes something, use it to get her attention else where and make her work for it, so she is draining the built up energy, which should calm her down and not act out.

She sound's like a dominate female to me. Have you tried exercising her before going to the park?
