It's pretty much just an Alaskan Husky.....

In the proper sense it is Husky and a Mal Mix.

Welcome to the forum and congratulation on your new addition. All the help you could ever need should be written in our older posts. Check the training section Wink

The energy levels are similar, although your pup will probably be bigger than a regular husky. I know Eric has an alaskan husky, maybe he'll have some insight for you.

Nanook is a Husky Malamute mix and all I really know is from what I have read. Malamutes will get bigger and if I remember right I think Malamutes are a tad more protective and tend to wonder less. I had a malamute growing up and he was very big and very protective and always stayed close ....with in a few hours if he did get out, he never went far. I have never had a husky though so I have no experience to compare.

There is a difference between an Alaskan Husky and a Husky x Mal- often called Huskamute or the likes. Eric has an Alaskan Husky in the sense of the racing mixed breed.

I'd anticipate larger size, heavier bone, blockier head, probably equal in the energy department so high energy, beyond that hard to truly say.

Kind of unpredictable which it will take after- depends on the dog! Mals are a bit calmer, a little more aloof and not quite as high energy. They are every bit as stubborn as Huskies and have an equally high prey drive, so socialize your pup with cats and small dogs ASAP! Mals sometimes are a bit territorial as well, so again, definitely socialize right away! We recently lost our Tim, who was a husky, mal, samoyed, wolf mix- but he definitely favored the Malamute side. He was the best dog ever! F your pup is half aS wonderful as Tim was, you will have an awesome dog. I wish you the best!

We already have a small dog a shih tzu named Maggie and members of our family also own small dogs so he will be well socialized wth small dogs Smile

Just be careful on the parents temperments, mixing these two breeds doesn't always end well. Malamutes already have really dominant personalities and then mixing a bad breeding in with that can come to a very aggressive dogs. Malamutes do tend to be same sex aggressive so I'd nip that really fast. Also Malamutes are so much bigger then a Husky and Huskies tend to rough house with little dogs not knowing how big they are already so be very careful. I really don't understand why people would mix these 2 breeds together honestly...I really hope you aren't buying from a breeder.

I couldn't agree more. While breeding purebreds SHOULD be more thought out then it already is, doing the two mixed breeds are so much harder. I feel like not as much thought at all is put into it. That said, I know there are certain groups of people who take real care into what they are doing, but a majority don't. Just make sure you do lots of research for both breeds, they have some very different personalities.
