OK, I just want to blow off some steam about a person who lives in my town that breeds "huskies" (I use the term loosely, poor things). Mainly, because it sickens me, and because several people in town have assumed we got Mishka from her. (this is a very small town!) She has a website and uses the word "business" to describe her venture. No health testing, no adhering to the standard, no showing or dog sports, nada. Many have turned her in as a puppy mill and conditions, but seems nothing can be done....something I will never understand (how these types of people get away with it!) I have personally been to her home very early in our thinking of getting a husky, as she had a two year old male to give away, well, she wanted $400 (HA!) Better to check out rescues first, right?? At that time I knew nothing about her or what she did, although I knew who she was and know of her family.

First thing I noticed, no dogs in site. She claims these are family pets. Said they are all in the barn, when I asked to see parents. I am guessing always in the barn! She has dogs (bitches) she has gotten from husky rescues THAT SHE BREEDS!!! Ugh. How does she get away with that?? I wanted so much to get a dog from one husky rescue place and they denied us, as we didn't have a fenced in yard! She told me at one point she was "behind" on her puppies. So, clearly, just wanting to make a buck. Sells for outrageous prices. Which is sadder that she does it, or that people buy them? One of her females is a "wooly", and she charges extra for those special pups. Yikes! And of course, she sells with full AKC, and CKC registrations. double yikes. She also breeds "mini huskies" for $1000 each. Of course she takes Paypal, and drives around with the puppies at three weeks of age to meet potential buyers out of town. Like she's out selling brown eggs or something.

On her website, now, she has a "mini husky hybrid" pup for sell for $400....OMG...it's a MUTT. Probably adopted it from a shelter.....

Turns my stomach and burns my cookies! OK...end of rant.

That is horrible. I hate people like that. Sad

The sadder part is, that these people sell to those who know nothing about huskies. They have NO idea what they are getting into, and most of the puppies probably end up in shelters.

It's breeders like these is how I ended up with my second husky. Family purchased him and his sister, more than likely for a Christmas puppy, and then realized they couldn't afford to puppies and didn't have the time for them. I came in to rescue him. Though I don't know what rescue she's going through at all because I know the rescue group in Florida makes sure that the dogs are spayed/neutered before they're rescued back out. Was at the dog park today too, and someone came in with something that looked like a husky pup, but the proportions were all wrong, instead of having a little fur ball theirs was super skinny. The person knew nothing really about the breed and more than likely paid a good amount for a puppy from a BYB. It is frustrating that there are people who backyard breed/puppy mills out there, but people want puppies and for some reason they sure are willing to pay a pretty penny for them without knowing what they're getting themselves into down the road genetically. Unfortunately not all cities have laws about puppy mill/BYB things. My vet told me about a woman here in town who was breeding Minx Cats and selling them. They were basically living in horrible conditions, so finally the state was able to go in and shut her down and confiscate the animals, but sadly she just moved out of the city limits to where the law doesn't apply and just started her operation back up again.
